Since joining this forum and being fairly new to this type of thing I am wondering about the significance of the star ratings attached to members and how these are achieved or earned.
Also what's the difference between the membership grades - Member, Full Member, Senior member etc.
Unless I have not looked hard enough there seems to be no explanation in either this or the old forum.
Regards KenJA

I believe it has to do with how many times you've posted to the forum. Interestingly enough, I have not been able to find anything on proboards about it. Not even in their support forum.
Member, full member and senior member thingies I cal also only guess at. I thought there was something like 'Noob' too. I believe those also have to do with how many times you post, but who knows. <smile>
Personally, I don't care much for ratings with little stars. Now knowing who's fairly new can be a convenient think to know, yes, but at the same time, it seems having a load of them next to ones name has the affect of making someone feel falsely 'important'. Having or not having them doesn't change me, or if I'm gonna post or not. Quality of posts, not quantity, is what interests me.
Color signifies something too but I have no clue what. Because of your question I just noticed I have large green ones. LOL! And now notice there are quite a lot of different colored stars. Yellow, Brown, Green, Purple. Seems there's enough that proboards should have an FAQ somewhere to answer questions like that.

Thanks for that Jazzcat. You've really surprised me becaus I always thought it was a specific forum thing and not the hosting medium.

Well I'm not sure but, if I recall correctly, from some discussion I saw somewhere, the rating system is somewhat customizable. Proboards really should have an FAQ somewhere, but I have yet to find it. You can go eyeball some other forums on proboards and see some differences. One thing you will see on some forums is 'karma'. You can give someone good karma or bad karma. We had Karma activated at one time, but man oh man, as you can probably guess all heck broke out because of people getting 'bad' karma. It's just another way to anger someone, and cause a fuss, so I'm very glad it was disposed of. Anyway, that is an example of being able to customize a forum. Naturally customizing is only something an administrator with those rights can do.

Yes, it's a mystery to me too. I got 5 little yellow ones for 900+ posts i.e same as Barry with 400+, JazzCat has 3 biggies for 700+, Gerry and Pat both have the same, Pat with nearly 4000 posts and Gerry (no slouch) with over 1600. I see Jacqui has two blueies for her huge contributions, oldsage 3 blueies, steptoe loads of blueies. Is there a system at all, or is it just random? C'mon admin, spill the beans! JohnG.

There is no mystery and no beans to spill. In a nutshell we in the administration team devised a star rating system we feel works. It is merit based so is dependent upon each member’s contribution to the forum. The different colours also reflect this, too. Things are different, however, for those with admin or mod status; if you’re a mod, and have only one post you’d still have x amount of start, i.e. 5 GLOLD ones. Those in admin have more

Well I've got 1,317 Posts and only two blueies & I think I had a Mod in my family once used to drive a Motor Scooter And I was thinking of swapping some of my blueies with Tubbs Goldies, and maybe Weegeo could be our Mod for the occasion. So how many Goldies can I have for my blueies? Please...... ? Ta very much Jacqui ***********************************************

Hi Jacqui, I'm working hard on getting up to 1,000 posts so I can change my little yaller stars for a BIG bluey! (Wish I had three or four big stars like JazzCat's.) I'll swap all of my little yellows for one of your blueies. Deal? JohnG.

Simmo Your post nearly reduced me to tears, as a show of charity I would like to donate my single green star to a better cause, and would like Simmo to have it. NB I dont think my typing is any quicker than yours. As a very famous english comedian called Eric Morecambe once said ' I am hitting all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order' .
