Hi there folks, If we are to believe that this forum has as of to'day 158 members, then why is it that the same 30/35 members are the only one's posting. Are the members figures inflated to keep interest in the forum or have we got 123 members who do not interact, Just a thought . cheers geoff (Allegro)

My money (all 2d, old money) goes on 'members who don't interact'.
It's the same in so many forums I've been on. Actually I think this group has a high proportion of posting members, many others are much worse. Around 20% isn't bad IMO. But, the real question is how do we get others to join in a bit more? Beyond me! JohnG.

I understand were your coming from but i don`t believe for 1 nano second that our figures are being inflated in any way and i`m sure that the powers that be will give you a swift answer to your question. It`s every members perogative to post as and when they like we have no hard fast rules regarding posting unlike some other forums. It was on the forum before that you had to post often to avoid suspension but that was changed sometime ago,but it is a very valid point that you are making it seems to be the same people posting all the time perhaps this will spur some new postings by the newer members.

I can assure you Geoff that there is no inflation of figures going on, I couldnt see the point in that. It will always be the case that only a proportion of members will post. Some are uncomfortable with posting for whatever reason.
It would be lovely if everyone would post something, as I'm sure we'd all gain from their imput, but alas, this is only a wish.

Is there a way a personal invitaion to post could be sent to all members via their personal mail addresses, perhaps some people just want an invitation to voice an opinion or question. I was a member for quite some time before I plucked up the courage to post, so there may be more with a similar outlook. If they dont like any of the subjects they could allways start one of their own.

I can understand where you are coming from Geoff, but I see it this way. In any form of entertainment there are Performers and there are the Audience and the split is approx 80/20. We are lucky here to have so many great performers that I think the rest just like to sit back and enjoy the varied talents within this site. The same can be said with the variety of topics raised ,there are Writers and there are Readers. I still suspect that as Ian says, there are some that just need to pluck up the courage to post that initial first post. I know what I felt like before I posted my first song on Members Stage a couple of years back, I was almost frightened to read the comments ,but the encouragement and advice I received gave me great confidence to further participate. We all have varying opinions and I take great delight in reading the debates on this site and know that there is great respect amongst our members no matter how controversial the subjects are sometimes. Whoa I need a liedown now Regards Bigmike

I always look at the "active users last 24 hours", just to see who has been visiting the forum and there are mostly the same names as the ones who are posting from time to time. Perhaps "the silent ones" are not even visiting. or have I misunderstood the whole thing? Lena

I have just done a quick scaqn of all of our members, and the figures show the following:
Total Members.................................................................158 Members who have posted at least once........................115 Members who have never posted....................................43
I dont think thats a bad percentage of posters on a forum.

One of the main reasons this site is good is that we're not troubled by "trolls"! One of the better Yahoo groups I used to frequent from time-to-time started to get trolled, and the group has now been completely quiet since May. I kept warning people about the activities of a couple of individuals but no notice was taken. Now it's dead as a dodo! Shame. Of course you all know what an Internet troll is, don't you? JohnG.

The simple matter is not all members contribute all the time, which is their choice. If we do have parasites on the site we don't mind, however, we'd naturally prefer if they posted and contributed to the forum like everyone else.

I agree entirely with BigMike's eloquently expressed take on this one. In the past year I have joined quite a few forums and let them 'lapse' because they either lacked a sense of community or because I felt pressured to post. I'm now a regular visitor to this and two other forums only for this reason. Midi Hangout has a relaxed, community feel to it ... a place where musos of many musical backgrounds and training, not to mention age ;D ;D all seem to share their passion for music in all genres and are generous with their knowledge and expertise. Above all, there is a tangible sense of fun here (the only reason for me personally to spend time making music). I think if you have the right atmosphere, then people are encouraged in their own time to post ... after all most people prefer to say nothing and listen and maybe learn ... until they feel they have something worth saying ... seems only fair to let 'em be in the meantime and just enjoy the craic (I really hope I've spelt that right!!) Let's not get hung up on figures ... maybe just thanks to those who keep the 'ship afloat'. My local music store closed recently and I miss just going in for a chat ... this forum fills that gap and more ... the bit you miss with online shopping for music gear Time for a lie down now ;D ;D Best regards ... Rainbow:)

Guess I'd better put in my twopenn'worth (how does one spell that?) I contributed to a couple of Cyprus based forums for a while but, like my contributions to this one, only when I felt I had something worth saying. One in particular in Cyprus degenerated into a complete shambles with people either slagging one another off or using the forum as an advertising tool. NOT for me! I'd rather write something worth while and maybe thought provoking than just post for the sake of it. Most, if not all, the guys on here, in my opinion, seem to take a similar approach and for that reason I'm happy to be a member.
Take care,
Roger

Having read all the comments it seems like we have the right mix [always knew we had] all we can do is wait on the next topic coming up and hope we get a great response to it. Perhaps if someone has a topic in mind and they are not confident in starting it please feel free to `pm` me and i will start the ball rolling for you or contact any of the other members.

Hey guys, did you see the statistics ? "Total Members.................................................................158 Members who have posted at least once........................115 Members who have never posted....................................43"
Thats not bad, is it ? Give me the names of the 43 and I'll try to wake them up !!! Lets hear a simple " HELLO" (in whatever language you want ) from all our members. Just take a minute and say "Hi" ................... you'll make me breathe easy.
