Well there are new champions of europe, tonight Man Utd were played off the pitch after a brilliant start by Utd. A goal in 10 mins seemed to knock the heart out of United
Sorry to all our Man U supporters i had hoped they would have hammered Barca but it goes to show that sometimes cheaters do infact win but barca should understand that the trophy is only on loan to them better luck next time Man U

Barcelona had four first choice defenders out George, pure and simple...Man U were rubbish last night, the overpaid whingers made no effort whatsoever on a night when you give every last ounce of energy you have...I actually felt sorry for Alex Ferguson, it was embarrasing for him. They were totally out-classed and young Messi has proven who is best in the world at the moment!!
No excuses this time Man U fans...Barca played you off the pitch.

Yes Tubbs ,I have to agree with most of what you say, Barcelona were far more superior to Man Utd on the night and you have to give credit where it's due. Iniesta and Xavi were brilliant in the middle and Messi was excellent up front. Anderson and Park seemed overawed by the occasion and when you dont have a midfield ballwinner i.e. Fletcher, then the front players, irrespective of their talents ,will struggle to make an impact. Ah well theres always next year Regards Bigmike

Hard luck to United but no doubt they'll be back to next year for another bash at the title.
Have any for here considered the possibility that maybe other Premier League teams have to take a share of the blame for Man U's dismal performance? What I mean is, if they had stiffer opposition throughout the season they'd have been better prepared for Europe. Think about it. It's considered by some to be one of the reasons Celtic or Rangers do badly when they play out of Scotland.

Well far be it for me to argue with the legend that is Pat, but [ducks and waits for the flying kick] i think that the premier league is 1 of the hardest leagues in football, true Utd won the title but not by much and if the ref had played fair when Chelsea played barcelona the outcome of the game would have been slightly different [but the result the same] The british form of football is played differently to what we used to call `the continental`style in that we don`t hold onto the ball as much as the foreign teams and this was Man U downfall they couldn`t get the ball and when they did they just gave it away with poor passing. I would have replaced the Carrick guy his passing was abysmal Scholes should have been on from the start but it`s easy to be an armchair critic with hindsight, as a Chelsea fan it doesn`t really bother me who won though i would have loved Utd to have hammered them but thats football.

The premier league is the best in Europe...c'mon Pat, you sound like one of the Man U spin doctors!! The reason they lost was because the Overpaid, Over-Rated and in some cases Over-Weight players of Utd were totally outclassed by a far more superior team, even though Man U clinched the title i believe that Chelsea are a lot better team than them. If Celtic and Rangers were in the English League they would struggle to stay in the Premiership. I can and will never understand why everyone thinks Man U are seen as the be all and end all of footie!!! They got hammered fair and square!!! Tubbs......trying to get Harris's didgeridoo in the boot..lol

I am not a Man U fan and nor am I making excuses for them but was simply observing that whereas they appeared to play extremely well in the Premier League against other English clubs their performance in this European final was poor by comparison. My argument, for what it's worth, is that maybe the level of competition they faced day in day out this last season did not prepare them adequately for the clash against Barcelona. In that encounter Man U looked quite ordinary and out of their depth. In fact, it was shameful to see such a club so out played. It's all academic now as the best team on the day won, and very convincingly at that.

Point taken Pat .....but if anything it is Barcelona who are playing a lot weaker opposition week in and out. With the exception of Real Madrid the Spanish La Liga is very poor in comparison to the Premiership, so the theory that this may be the case is not so. IMHO... For a team whose goal every year is to win this cup, the perfromance they put up was nothing short of a circus act and i salute the Barcelona players and staff for showing us all how the game should be played.

Now, that's an interesting angle. So despite Barcelona's lack of worthy competitors throughout their season they still went out and ran rings around United!
Regardless of all the excuses that can be argued Man U were seriously outplayed, outmaneuvered and outclassed.

Well, you did offer that other perspective.
I thought Sir Alex made a good call when he rested his main players before the final but in retrospect they could have done with the practice ;d

Hi all! From a previous topic all you MU & ABMU fans will know that I am a fan of SAF not MU. Sometimes in life things become unstuck and on Wednesday Night in Rome it definately came unstuck for SAF. You could argue that he was limited in his choice of players especially in midfield but I will never, as long as I have life understand what posessed him to play that midfield and leave Scholes and Teves on the bench. Common sense would tell even the no brains MU supporters that final would be won or lost in the first 20 mins. If MU had have scored it would have been an uphill struggle for Barca. It would have taken them longer to get their passing rhythm going and given SAF a chance to survey the whole thing and make any changes he felt would hinder them from playing through midfield. If he had have paid attention to Barca V Chelsea he would have known that Chelsea who have a far superior midfield than MU were ran ragged by the Barca midfield. So pray all you MU heads tell Ole Sweeney what was his thinking....or.....as Sinatra says "" Now the end is near"" He definately got this one wrong by a long shot............Gerry.

And he did it his wayyyyy lol Just as anside to this topic i can`t agree that the better team won !!! the better team had been dumped out by a bald headed blind referee I have no doubt Chelsea would have beaten Utd as well but we will never know.
As for the team he [SAF] put out as Gerry says i will never understand it but it does smack of complacency Man U thought they had only to turn up. The first 1 i would have pulled off would have been Carrick a cheeta couldn`t have picked up his passes, the vidic would have been removed and i would have had Teves and Scholes on from the get go ahh well wrong again.
I listened to the 2 english commentators saying if Ferguson won this game he would be the greatest manager of ALL time lol lol lol obviously they didn`t follow that topic on our forum, but does this mean that in the eyes of the commentators he`s not the greatest just a thought

On Uniteds showing on Wednesday night I totally agree. The Chelsea Midfield would have done the same to them as Barca did. The only misgivings that I have is that there is not a side in England and never has been with the ability to keep the ball the way these guys do for so long. Each individual has no problem receiving the thing even though he is being man marked some times by two or three players. And the reality of the story is that "" If you dont have the football you can't play football "" Someone help Ole Sweeney as he is in hiding after his long and exhausting post acclaiming SAF as the greatest......Please...

I was totally amazed that Tevez and Scholes were left on the bench for so long too Gerry...i also agree that Chelsea would have beaten Man U in the final....but with the way Barcelona played on the night i don't think anyone would of beat them, they were hungry for it and played like football should be played...Fergie got it totally wrong...dare i say that the way Barca passed the ball around they watched the game of Leeds against Southampton in the 70's!!!!!! ;D Tubbs.....looking forward to Everton beating Chelski!!!!
