Hi Guys, I find it strange that we haven`t had any posts yet regarding the world cup!!! could it be that we have no interest or are we waiting for an England win lol Some of the games have been fairly entertaining but not up to what i would regard as `World Cup`quality, true the ball seems to be doing strange things[like slipping thru keeper`s hands] but the German`s seem to have no problems with it and for those blinking horns it does spoil things a little So if you have any comments lets hear them

What a woeful performance by England tonight .........the premiership players were unrecognisable ......Terry, Lampard, Gerrard and above all Rooney the one player I thought would have a big impact. ......dunno is he carrying an injury is it the formation the nations expectancy or just the nerves thats got to them but they could be on their way home on Tues if they dont win...not too pushed abou France Au Revoir I say they shouldnt have been there in the first place .. ;D...hard to pick a favourite at this stage but I think the gap between the so called lesser teams is closing and I think we might be in for a few more shocks yet....... but I think the Champions will come from one of these ... Brazil Argentina Germany or Holland just my thoughts on what Ive seen so far.......and I agree with Bigmike Uruguay and Mexico as well as Korea and possibly Slovenia could be thereabouts as well Cheerz Barry

Don't really know why england are competing in the world cup, they are just an over paid, over ego-ed waste of space.Problem is most of our good league players are foreign and are therefore now playing for their own respective countries.

Don`t just think it`s the English players that are overpaid i think they are all overpaid i don`t see how a player can justify wages of in some cases over hundred thousand a week but i would agree that most of the top premier league players are foreign and this has badly affected league football over here i think also the fact that England played an outdated system badly let them down 4-4-2 is not going to win the world cup. I`m afraid that the only good thing to come out of this world cup for England is Terry Venables comedy song lol lol Last thought i would most certainly change the manager he is to set in his ways and doesn`t seem to have the sense or the inclination to change his team around Just my tuppence worth

I'm just glad that I was born an optomist, otherwise the standard of football from the English team we have all witnessed would have been enough to put me round the bend. This is the problem when the press and newspapers build the team up to be so wonderful, and they are quite simply not as good at this level to which we would like them to be. Having said that I will still be shouting from the roof tops on Wednesday afternoon.

There's a lot of talk about altitude playing a big part in some of the european teams dismal performances .......just look at Spain France and England for starters reading up about this I'd say its definately a major factor eventhough they had a few weeks training in those conditions...going from sea level to altitude in a matter of days must be draining ......here's an outake from an article I read......Cheerz Barry "Spain kick off their campaign against Switzerland at sea level in Durban and five days later face Honduras at Ellis Park, the highest venue in the World Cup at a lung-busting 1753metres. As the altitude gets higher the concentration of oxygen in the air decreases by up to 20 per cent. Oxygen supplies energy to the red blood cells so the breathing rate increases as the body works harder to keep up".Full Article for anyone interested.......... www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/world-cup-2010/news/2010/06/11/altitude-problems-could-ruin-england-s-hopes-of-world-cup-glory-claims-ex-manchester-utd-star-gary-bailey-86908-22325946/

Well true to fashion the England team slipped into the knockout rounds by the skin of their teeth lol and now the papers are building them up once again i fear this is a big mistake because i personally don`t think that they are that good!!! I think the German`s will turn them over and then we will hear all the excuses about fitness, team selection and so on i would love them to reach the final but i don`t think they will.

Well as we thought the game is now over and it`s time for the recriminations to start,no doubt the cry will be for the manager`s head and in doing that there will be very little blame placed on the shoulders of the players!!! Let`s have an investigation weegeo style 1st The manager `rehearses`the team and gives them a strategy with which to play to.
2nd The manager and his `team of backroom people` have the responsibilty to keep the players occupied during their`rest time`. [ Did the mangerial staff fulfill this task? hummm well i think going on `safari`and playing golf everyday would certainly keep the most frustrated people very happy as all this was at no expense to the team] [BUT AT GREAT EXPENSE TO THE BRITISH TAX PAYER]
Now then lets look at the players responsibilty!!!!
1st They are expected tp play like the high paid professionals that they are!!!!did they do this ermmmm NAW it is fair to say that some players were playing out of position to that which they play for their clubs but this is a poor excuse a good player can play anywhere just look at the skills of the likes of Gasgoine, Lineker,Hoddle and Waddle not to mention Pele and our own legend Bestie so as you can see this is no excuse. IMHO what we saw was team that thought they just had to `turn up` and the would win alas no one told the other teams lol.
2nd Lets look at the teams benefits!!! We are now in the age of `austerity`according to the government but i think they have forgotten to tell the football club owners the cash that is lavished on the modern day players is obscene as i said in another post i don`t believe that any player is worth £100,00 pounds a week especially after this last showing as with all things related to massive amounts of cash you look forward to the cash and lose sight of the game, take for example Wayne Rooney he went into this competition with the intention or so the press said of coming out the `greatest player in the world`well i`m afraid not this time!!! Rooney needs to ask himself were did it all go wrong for him personally when he plays `club football`he race the full length of the pitch for 90 minutes and more he challenges for every ball but what happened in the world cup games?? when he lost the ball he just stood there waiting for it to come back to him without chasing back and as for John Terry apart from 1 game he was a disaster and i fear for England if they play him again he obviously thought he was bigger than his manager and undermined him at his press conference any other manager would have sent him home. This team has had more expensive free time handed to them but yet according to the press they found themselves `bored`they should ask the supporters that saved hard and spent a lot of money to follow the team if they were `bored`shame on them they should think of something to repay the loyality that they got on their `wee trip ` to south africa.
Final thoughts of weegeo!!!
I think that this English team was filled with guys who had `ego`s`much bigger than the tournament itself also it was very plain to see that there was a tension between some of the players that showed itself very clearly when they were playing!! if i was head of the FA i would be setting this team down and asking them very honestly do they want to play for their country or not!!! those that answer yes i would let them play with a guarantee of no fixed fee rayher a `performance fee`were they would get paid for work done to my satisfaction a bad performance would mean no fee then we would see who wants to play most and lastly although i don`t blame the manager fully after he has no control really when the players step unto the pitch i would still replace him and put an English man in charge of the team or even a scottish man lol this would give all concerned a greater understanding of what the team needs and more importantly what the country expects.
These are just a few thoughts that i have put together after watching England being sunk by Germany.
weegeo---------------- for news on sport @ midi hangout thank you and goodnight
