Hi Guys, Sorry to say the response from Sir Alex was negative lol lol but on a more serious note have the FA gone insane or what!!!!!! To keep Capello at this stage is just an afront to all knowledgable followers of football, his main excuse now is that the players where `tired` and we should have a mid season break in the winter errrrm was the world cup not just held this summer??? i`d be very interested to hear your comments on the current situation

This is a point that my son offered as the reason England did not do well in the World Cup. He asked me the question ''how many English players play in the top four sides in the Premier League???'' You can work that answer out for yourselves His point was that Lampard ,Terry and Ashley Cole etc. look better players than they really are because they are surrounded and helped by better 'foreign' players, hence when they play for the international side they feel they are playing with a lesser standard of ''supporting player'' He further stressed the point by saying that if you stick the afore mentiond players in a side say like Stoke City they would struggle to make an impression without their talented imports alongside. The long term implications of the policies adopted by the so called'' top four''[how many talented English youngsters are breaking into their first teams] will mean an even inferior National side in the future For further evidence ,look at the Spanish Squad, a high percentage of their players play for Barcelona,a truly ''Spanish'' side. Scotland suffered the same when in the 90s onwards , the top two sides [ Celtic and Rangers ] filled their squads with foreign imports to the detriment of good young Scottish players. Of course the solution is to force the ''Top Four '' to fill their sides with English players which in the short term would mean a drastic drop in standard. But in reality you wouldn't bet on them agreeing to that. Don't shoot the messenger Regards Bigmike

Hiya Mike, You raise excellent points and i`m sure most of us can remember when there was a strict embargo on the number of foreign players that you could have in your team!! and in those days the top teams were all winning league, cup and european trophies now i`m afraid it`s spot the `english guy`in most top teams and your quite correct in thinking that so called`top` players would fail in lower divisions miserably. Imho i think that the time is right to bring such an arrangement back into not just football but all our sporting teams. Now just before anyone has a go at me about being `racist`i think that the overall results for the English soccer team answers all the points we have on view Like to hear from the rest of you guys and listen to your views

Both very good points lads....i agree totally. The reality is that England only have 2 or 3 world class players, why people are dissapointed in how far they got amazes me, more so at the prediction that had Lampards goal been allowed the German game would of been a different outcome!! They beat no one of any real football pedigree to qualify and suddenly the manager is the "best". Whats needed is a good old take no crap Manager like Harry Redknapp to whip them up. Even at that, they are not good enough to win a major championship. Two minutes into the German game and it started...yes the commentators favourite number.....1966!!!!! Stop living in the past...it was 44 years ago!!! The Germans showed yesterday how the beautiful game should be analysed and played, which is why i had the fore-knowledge to bang €50 on them at 16/1 before the tournament started... ;D Not quite there yet, just the Spanish Olympic Diving Squad to get past before the Final..

The team I picked from the get-go went out thanks to a brilliant display be the Germans, so well done to them and now my allegiance is switched in their direction. And yes, I am that fickle I had hoped to see England do better and was disappointed by their efforts, it seems they lack the same passion they have when playing at club level......sorry, for me it isn't about the quality of the support they get from so called better players from other countries as I feel the amount of money they make better determines the effort they put in. In the world cup champagne the likes of Rooney received some decent passes but he simply didn't play them as we all know he can. So let's stop making all these excuses for these overpaid players, they have the talent but they simply lack passion and drive when playing for their country. I think England fans deserve better from any player given the opportunity to wear the Three Lions on their shirt. In any event the England players are out and good riddance to them, I say. Let's be fair......who really want to see their country's best players not putting in 100% when given the chance? Now, hopefully next time they get the opportunity to represent England they'll play with the same passion and zeal as they do for their respective clubs......if they do this they will once again be a force to reckon with in International football, which is something any genuine fan of the game wants to see. Germany to win!

I wouldn't call Holland a great footballing side by any means....brute force won them the game against Brazil, not pretty to watch at all, they will have to do the same to overcome the Spanish who do play a great passing game, hopefully i am proved wrong and it will be an entertaining final but on the overall evidence of things i think the Dutch will just try cancel out Spain's passing moves and try catch them on the break. Just my humble opinion.......time will tell..

Spain played well against the Germans and deserve their win, although in fairness they were fortunate not have been awarded a penalty against them. In any event, good luck to them in the final. They have never been there before so it's nice to see them there from this perspective.
Not a great World Cup over all in my view, but hopefully after some absolutely dreadful refereeing decision we will see the introduction of some technology.

Have just watched Spain win the world Cup ,but first of all may I just apologise for stating that there were two ''footballing'' sides in the Final , in an earlier post. Maybe I was recalling the wonderful ''Total'' Dutch sides of the past and only watched the present side in the semi's when they must have been on their best behaviour Tubbs ,you called it correctly m8 The Dutch were a total disgrace tonight and were extremely lucky to finish the match with only one player dismissed Johann Cruyft and his total football mates of the 70's must have been embarrassed to see the tactical approach of this Coach Spain thoroughly deserved to win and it was only fitting that Iniesta, one of the finest footballers on show ,should score the winning goal. I agree Mike.
The Dutch were despicable, disgraceful and woefully lacking anything relating to the team of yesteryear. Normally I'd try and find something positive to say about a team that lost but in this case I am simply delighted the Dutch did not win......imagine having a team like that as World Champions?
Anyway, well done to Spain. They played magnificently and fully deserved their win.

Yep with all you guys on this one. A showpiece it definately wasn't but thanx be to god football won out in the end and if the Dutch had won this it woulda been a total injustice. The likes of Cruyuf Neeskens Gullit and Van Basten were footballing greats and will be forever remembered but this Dutch team will be remebered ok but not for their footballing skills. I also think Howard Webb bottled it as well they coulda been down to 8 men with a more efficient ref.......anyway its over now and I think the Spanish were the best footballing side in the competition so as I say football won out in the end and Spain are deservedly World Champions ........

Watched the game and was totally engrossed with such a fine and legal display of GBH with intent I thought football was the loser last night and not the Dutch. I also think that the referee was at `some`other game either that or he was totally blind and i agree the dutch should have been down to at least 8 men it reminded me of the south american teams of old well done to the spanish lot for keeping their focus on the game they are well deserved winners
