Yes the curtain track runs from the front to the depth you require. You need to fit a blank runner at the back ends so as to stop the "drawer" going off the end. If you want to change the height just be carefull about the overlap.I found hip height ideal. Yes loving it here on the GC. A lot of traffic going into Surfers today so I guess the A1 change hasn't put too many off.

Thanks Frank and Warren,
Think I have a clear picture now. That sounds like a really good setup. Nice and wide, stable, an ad included. One last question if you don't mind, how are the runners attached to the draw? Superglue? Nails? Sellotape?

Thank you Shyam for posting these lovely pics, I am now even more impressed with the table/stool. To be honest I have not seen anything like this in any of the furniture shops I know, but I have yet to check out IKIEA so maybe I'll have luck there. I imagine many musos would love to get their hand on a little set up like this.

Hi Frank I've been reading this post with interest and it would be smashing if we could see some pictures of your stand. Jacqui

jacqui, I have emailed the other member of the duo to see if he has any pics of the gear set up. I can't get to my gear as it is in storage. We are moving in about 6 weeks so I will have everything then. It is basically a table top on a keyboards stand with a front, and suspended drawer.

Shyam and Frank,
First of all a big THANK YOU to Shyam for starting this thread, and another one for posting all those photos of how the stool works. Then a third to Frank for explaining in some detail how his custom made stand fits together. I think I have a clear picture now. It actually sounds just the ticket as it is wide but not too deep. Room for mixer, laptop, perhaps an amp and effects units etc. and a drawer for the sound module. Hmmmm!
Think I might just about be up to constructing one of these! I have an unused X stand in the cellar. Where's my tape measure? Locking piano hinge, now where do I find that? Google. eBay.
Thanks again the two of you, JohnG.

Like John, I too have learned much valuable info from this thread, so a big thanks to Shyam and Frank. The idea about the keyboard stand might be the way to go for me at this stage as I have a spare one just lying around now that I am concentrating more on the guitar for gigs

Following this philosophy, buying a mixer stand is just so conventional. When with several months work, broken finger nails, a flattened thumb, a couple of hundred quid spent on specialist tools, I can have a stand that looks crap, is difficult to set up and falls over every time a raise my voice above a whisper. BUT I made it myself!!! Know wad I mean? The prestige! JohnG. Having said that this might fit the bill:

Nothing beats being able to say - that mixing stand over there... no not the bought one...yeah, the cruddy looking thing.....well I buggered (oops) I mean, built that .......... Warren

On the nail, Warren. !!! "Yeah, the one that's leaning over at a drunken angle, that falls over every time I walk across the stage!" "Yep, built it myself!" "Only cost an arm and a leg, a finger, a broken thumb (see how it bends at a strange angle?), a visit to hospital to remove a screw I drove through the palm of my left hand (needed a blood transfusion and three pints of blood), and it took me just 4 months to build it!" "The wife found me on the garage floor in a pool of blood when she came home in the evening, and had to call an ambulance!" "Yeah, had to learn to play the guitar left handed, as I can't hold the neck properly because of the thumb, don't need it so much for strummin' though, although it is difficult to hold the pick!" "The scars on the wrist?" "Well I did kinda lose heart half way through!" "The finger?" "Well, yes, it does mean that I had to learn all new power chords!" "It's why they call me Django!" Man, the kudos!

See, George, sometimes expediency is not necessarily the "best" approach ;d
