Does anyone on the forum use a Boss ME50 multi fx unit. I am thinking of upgrading and would be interested in reading any reports/right-ups etc. From what I have seen on the web it seems to do most things that I would need.
Thanks in advance.
Ian

I've recently upgraded from my old Boss ME8 to the latest Boss ME70 and there's a world of difference. Still basically a collection of Boss stomp boxes in one unit which can be set up as manual chain but with individual control knobs very similar to a single Boss stomp box and a whole new world of sounds. However, the difference between ME50 and newer ME70 is one more footswitch, a selection of simulated amps in one section plus EZ tone and 38sec loop facility borrowed from the Boss GT10 unit. I'm just getting familiar with the unit and would recommend it for robust build, ease of use/programming and great Boss sounds. I don't know if maybe you are considering a second-hand ME50 Ian, but you may want to check out the ME70 specs against what you have found already re: the ME50 and see how they compare to you. Price wise you can pick up a new ME70 from Digital Village for £219 currently.

Hi Rainbow I have been offered a secondhand ME50 for under half what an ME70 would cost. Can you tell me what the extra pedal does on the ME70, is it assignable to many different jobs? You mentioned Digital Village, they are everywhere on the net, do you find them OK? They are of course just over the county border from me ( well 50 minutes drive anyway ).
Thanks Ian

Hi Ian, The extra footswitch gives various Delay options plus the phrase loop option but basically by having this extra footswitch the ME70 is able to offer more 'pedal options' ie 8 per footswitch. Here's a link to download the operating manual and you'll be able to understand better what I mean by this: www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/_support/om.cfm?ln=en&dsp=0&iCncd=4927&iStcd=4I guessed that the secondhand price of the ME50 would be a big deciding factor Most of my current studio and stuff I currently have up for sale or just sold all comes from Cambridge Digital Village (my nearest music shop now). I've always found them to be helpful and keenly priced ... they've got stores all round the country. Here's a link to a demo by Alex Hutchings on You Tube of the ME70: www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5roaNoCWiAI went to the Cambridge Digital Village to see him demo Boss/Roland stuff about 2 weeks after I'd already bought the unit (after seeing this demo and others ... follow the you tube links btw). He's a really nice bloke and a great player. Hope this helps & good luck with your decision making Best regards ... Rainbow:)
