I finally bought myself a decent guitar and amp.
The guitar I eventually settled on is a Gibson SG Standard; a beautiful instrument and a sheer joy to play. It has great action, too.
The amp is a Marshall Haze 40 Watt valve. The sound from this “little” combo is simply unbelievable. It also has some really good effects; reverb, echo, vibe and chorus. And in addition it has an amazing overdrive function.
The recession actually helped me afford these babies; apparently the Gibson would have cost 2,500 dollars [in the US] 12 months ago. Then two months ago it was 1,375 euro, here in Ireland, but last week, when I bought it, it had gone down to just 1,050 euro... however, I haggled and haggled and finally got it for 950 euro! This seems a pretty good price, and from a genuine Gibson dealer no less.
In any case, I am well pleased.
I bought the set up last Thursday and gigged with them that very night in Cashel, Co Tipperary. I felt a little uncomfortable at first because I’d normally use the keyboard, but I was determined to use the guitar and boy am I glad I did; the two hour gig seems to have lasted only about 20 minutes ;D

Pat Sounds like a good deal you got there. Gibson SG and a Marshall Amp, sounds like a good combination. Well done.

Does it mean that you were having so much fun that time flew by, OR ... that you got chucked out after about 20 minutes? No need to answer that one. Sorry I just couldn't resist it! ;D Glad you got a good deal, they're to be had at the moment if you look around. I picked up the top version of Sonar for about a third of its normal price recently. Albeit version 7. Only 1 problem, the manual is more than 1500 pages!!!!! Have fun with your new rig. I hope it brings you many years of pleasure, the punters too, of course! All the best, JohnG. PS can we have a little piccy please? With or without Elvis!

Hi guys. Thanks for your comments. Yes, well pleased. I will be using the new set up Saturday and Sunday night, tonight I am "relaxing" in front of the telly and, you guessed it, new guitar in hand John I will definitely post a pic soon enough. Oliver, the two do certainly complement each other. By the way, I just watched the movie School of Rock with jack Black and he's using the exact same guitar Thanks Jacqui. I appreciate your comments. No, I didn't need to get to the quivering stage but i did act like a hound-dog ;d
