Hi, I,m looking for help with drum volumes . If i want to reduce the volume on the snare drum (only ) ,not the whole kit. Is there an easy way to do this ? At the moment i'm having to go to "event list " and change every note value. I don't want to use "scale Velocity " as this puts all snare beat values the same. Hoping some of you guys can help !!
Regards Eddie

Hi Eddie
I used to do that a good few years back the way I used to do it was by using the Editing feature Interpolate. Highlight the track you wanna Edit/Select all for the full durastion of the song then go into Staff and choose the name of note you want to edit go to Edit/Interpolate on the left side of the page untick all the boxes you won't need so in your case just tick on the "Note box" fill in the note you want to edit in the min/max field and click ok. Another box will appear that's where alongside the vol box you need to fill in the "max box" the volume you want roughly. Sorry it's years since I done this so if you need anymore help I can try and help...

How many songs do you want to change Eddie. I have the facility to change individual drums on my system, but I don't have a huge amount of time. I am happy to do a few songs for you though if it helps. Ian

Hi Ian, And Thanks for your input. I started out remixing most of my tracks during lockdown for something to do. There's a few tracks that i wasn't totally happy with the drum mix. Usually the snare drum being too loud. It's not a big deal , just me being a bit picky (idle hands Lol ) and i'm curious to know how it all works as well. I'm quite happy to have a go using Barry's method, but if i'm struggling i'll let you know. If that's ok.
Thanks again, i appreciate your time. Regards Eddie

That's fine Eddie. I know what you mean about re-mixing, once you start it can be a case of thinking "I can improve on that". I've found over the years that all sound modules etc are not uniform in volumes. My Ketron sound module has very loud strings compared to my Yamaha one. Ian

Regards Eddie Hey Eddie.. Hope you're doing well my friend...Yep Barry has it correct and I use the "interpolate" feature all the time since I put all my drum sounds on individual tracks to be able to adjust JUST that drum velocity...If you know a minimum volume of what you don't want the snare to go below, and also know the maximum velocity of what you don't want it to exceed, you can set it to randomly "fill in" values on the snare between the minimum and maximum values you specify, and also using the "from and to" markers, you can also just select just a section of the snare hits if you don't want that throughout the whole song... If you know those values,or have a general idea of what volume number sounds good with your equipment,I'd be more than happy to do that for ya for songs you need that done for...Would only take me a few minutes to do that, since like I said,I do this ALL the time not just with drum sounds, but with other instruments sounds where it sounds fine with certain sections and sometimes sounds really bad when I do things like raising or lowering octaves.. Hope this helped... Take Care Manik Groove

Hi Sequenzzer, Doing ok thank you, hope your ok as well !!. I've been using Barry's method and it's working very well. There was only a couple of tracks i wasn't happy with, but got them sorted so all is good. I'm now experimenting. Mixing all drum tracks with zero reverb and trying that out. I thought some of the snare sounds were "muddying the mix" with too much reverb. I'm still at the initial stages of this, but so far , i'm happy with no reverb on drums. Any thoughts on this ?
Thanks for your help and best regards Eddie

Thanks for your help and best regards Eddie That's great to hear Eddie...Glad you got that sorted out... For me...I like to use just a little bit of reverb on the drums..mainly the snare and maybe a hand clap sound for emphasis, enough for a bit of longer release on those sounds which fills out the sound a bit more..especially on those 80's tracks that a lot of songs used electronic drum sounds on anyways....I usually set the Control Change number 91(reverb) to 25 or so which seems to give me the result I am looking for.. Take Care Eddie!
