Hi All, Is there anyone on here using an Alesis SR 16 ? I used one in a previous duo i played in as a normal drum machine, and liked the sounds. I've just managed to get myself one, and i'd like to use it with my midifiles. At the moment i play my files from Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 through a Roland JV1080, but i'd like to use the Alesis drum sounds instead of the ones coming from the Roland. I assume you use a midi cable from PC to the Alesis, and change the Ports ETC, but is there any settings i need to do to the Alesis? Any help appreciated Thanks Eddie

Hey Eddie..
I am a big fan of Alesis drum sounds and have always used Alesis equipment for my drum sounds, even to this day...
I've owned a HR16 B Model,then I moved on to the SR16 as you have now,and finally I now use a Dm5 module currently....
All that I can recommend in a basic sense is that you make sure you have Channel 10 turned off on any other keyboard or module you have hooked up in your midi setup, and channel 10 turned ON and enabled(and any other channel turned OFF) in the SR-16..
If you plan on using drum patterns from the SR-16,make sure that you have MIDI clock enabled in the SR16,and have Cakewalk enable and send MIDI tempo clock out,so that the drum patterns will follow the speed(including increasing or decreasing the tempo) of Cakewalk's tempo for the song.
I'm sure you probably already knew this, but thought I'd throw it out there anyway just in case...

Hi Mike
Thanks for your input. I'm still waiting on the postman delivering the SR16 so i'm trying to get to grips with the basics before it arrives .
I'm not planning on using the drum patterns ,for now anyway, only playing midifiles.
I may have to come back to you on the channel 10 changes, if i get stuck.
Hope that's OK.
Thanks again
Regards
Eddie

I'm late to the party, Eddie, and you've probably already solved this but, just in case, don't forget to use the Alesis-specific instrument map. I think cakewalk has it already installed but if not, it's easy to find online. I love the SR16 sounds too. Cheer, Gibbo

Hi Gibbo,I got the SR16 a while ago now, but i've been unable to use it yet, My son has just bought a new house so much of my time has been spent there. He's just about settled in now so hopefully, i'll have a bit more time. I've never heard of the Alesis -specific instrument map, so maybe you can talk me through it. Thanks for any help

No worries. I know all about how life can throw up plenty of things to keep us occupied. I can email you the SR16 Manual and sound chart if you need 'em. The SR16 has 233 different drum/percussion voices, it's a big beast in a small package. Let me know if you need the manuals. I'm happy to help you get it set up and get it rockin'. No rush, just when you're ready. Cheers, Gibbo
