Hi all, finally my faithful old MBlaster2 backing track player has given up the ghost,so I was looking for some advice from the members as to what is available out there to play my backing music tracks on, I have been using mp3's which I have made up from midifiles, which I guess most of the members have gone down this track but I was wondering if there are other better options available. I would need something that I could possibly customize to suit my correct singing Key, also possibly the facility to change instruments, tempo etc. Any suggestions most welcome.Simmo

ps from Simmo,I would like to continue using my midi's which of course you have the luxury of customizing them before turning them into Wav/Mp3's ,so I guess what I am looking for is an quality mp3 player which I can load my completed tracks on.Simmo

I have just googled the following item which is available locally...... Boss eBand JS10 Audio Player with Guitar Effects..... I was wondering if any of the members has any feedback on this,I would only use it as a backing track player & run it through my PA system, price is around $700.00 AU....Simmo

Hi Terry If your just looking for an mp3 player an Ipad or Tablet might be a option for you also allowing you to display the lyrics while you sing I find it fantastic anyway....but maybe your thinking of a diff setup you could take a look at this thread I started a while back might give you some ideas. midihangout.proboards.com/thread/5636/ipad-gigging Barry

Terry, I've been using an Ipad for gigging for some time now and I would never use anything else.
Use the link that Barry put up and read it from start to finish. I was very sceptical at first, but following Barry's advice and some homework it worked a treat for me. No more lugging around books of words, minidiscs, etc. I bought one to use as a spare in case of troubles. Well i've never needed it it's never let me down.
It does take some time to set up, but because you,ve already got your trax in MP3, it'll be a lot easier. If you need anymore help. give us a shout and i'll try and talk you through it

Hi again, many thanks members for all of your imput into my MBlaster backing track player which had decided to give up the ghost with no warning, I spent a bit of time online checking out what is suitable &available out there, I was preparing to go forth today & see what the couple of music store's had to offer,& did notice online the Boss eBand js10 audio player was available through one of our music outlets.
Next step this morning now that I have a bit of spare time before we do a bit of local shopping I decided to take the MBlaster unit to pieces, nothing to lose,3 hours later & quite a few scary moments I actually found out the cause of my problem, I am definitely not a tech person but was able to isolate it to a faulty on off switch,to get parts for this antique bit of equipment is virtually impossible. OK I decide that the part that is broken ( the on/off button ) is beyond repair ,so to save a lot of not only money but also having to learn again something very technical getting some new that at my age I would find a bit daunting. The last time I had a problem with the MBlaster (a couple of years ago) the techo said to me that parts etc were hard to get so it would be to expensive & not worth fixing. Had a bit of time this morning before going over to our local shopping centre with my good lady to top up for the week end, so I decided to pull the said machine apart, nothing to lose...after having a look at it I was able to isolate the problem which turned out to be a press button starter switch, anyway after fiddling around for a couple of hours I managed to get the machine going as normal but with one small problem, it can now be turned on by switching on the power at the power plug on the wall, in other words when I get to my gig & ready to start, I just turn the power on as usual select my track press the play button it will play normally ie automaticly stop at the end of each track & then I can select the next song & press start as usual, the only difference is you cannot actually turn the machine's power off by pressing the off button, that is done anyway when I finish I turn the power off at the wall as normal.
PS, found a couple of small screws on the bench after I had finished.

Hi Frankie, a new switch wasn't an option as this is a press button type that operates it internally, it would have been very simple otherwise, so my only real option was as I have got it now ,thanks for imput. Ps...I guess I could say another good reason for me to do it this way "it's an age thingy" ( keep it simple)
