Hi members, I cant believe that 50 years has passed since Patricia & myself arrived in Aussie with a couple of young son's in tow, one of 4 years plus another of 18 months, the 18 month lad was not entitled to a seat which meant that he had to sit on either myself or Patricia's lap. Arriving after a two day flight of which made multiple stops, including Bombay & a couple of other places which in those days it was very normal practice, but hey we had no cause to complain, after all it cost us adults a price'ly sum of ten pounds each with the bonus of the kids were free. Only real problem was our 18 month lad did not qualify for a separate seat which mean't that Patricia and I took it in turns to have him on our lap's.( not recommended ).
Another interesting factor of our trip was that we left the old country in early Feb 1968, leaving some bitterly cold weather only to be faced with the heat of a Western Australia summer in which happened to be in full swing, memories of stepping off the plane in Perth faced by what seemed to be a living inferno. When we all got off the plane still all rugged up with the clothes we were wearing on leaving the old country, the heat hit us like a hot furnace. Adding to this we were only were allowed at that time a small baggage allowance, ie, one suitcase for each adult an no allowance for the kids. To counter this small baggage allowance we had doubled up on all of our clothing that we were wearing on leaving a very cold England which gave us a little bit more room in the said suitcases, so you can imagine how we looked & felt on stepping out of the plane into this heat.
Moving forward through the years the flight always is a great topic for conversation with our family, kids, grandkids etc plus we reckon we got good value for our ten pounds.
