First of all forgive my lack of knowledge and I hope I am posing this in the right section. So here goes, I purchased a Yamaha Disklavier for my wife but the volume when playing a midi file is too loud. I downloaded the DKVUTILS files and used VELOSET to try and adjust the volume or velocity for a given track but when I save and test the file the midi file is just as loud as before. I also downloaded Yamaha’s XG works. This is completely new territory for me so I am going about this blindly. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The only other solution seems to be to tweak the piano which seems to be the wrong approach. The issue is not the piano but the midi files the piano is playing.

1st do not alter any volumes under headphones 2nd two controllers to alter are 7 = volume and 11 = expression.... per track 3rd if its an overall volume problem set the keyboard/sound module volume as most midis are well balanced.Be aware that most midis are set in stereo.

Hi, As Freeway has written, I run another forum which specialises in MIDI tutorials and would be happy to help over there. The problem, as others have already written, is likely to be a combination of note velocity and channel volume, possibly but less likely expression, however you are probably correct in starting from Veloset, with which I presume one can adjust 'note velocities' downwards. I'm not that familiar with the Disklavier, but I've found a source for several dozen manuals covering different models. Which model do you have? Regards, JohnG.
