Jacqui If it's any help to you I have had 3 Epsom printers and they have all gone into land fill. They reject their own cartridges and give error messages at the drop of a hat. Try re installing it from scratch.

Don't know if it's any help Jacqui, but many inkjet printers gradually fill up a large felt pad with ink, (located in the bottom of the printer), as they go through their cleaning cycle.
Eventually they'll accept no more. There is a kind of timer that needs resetting once the felt pad has been replaced. I've done it on two different Canon printers in the past but don't know the procedure for any Epson printers. I had to find the service manual on-line for mine. It's a very messy procedure - be forewarned.

I'd give it a go to clean the ink pads, it's worth a shot I've nothing to lose, I have a load of ink for it and it's a very old model, so don't think I would find a new one anyway, but can't find anything to tell me how to do it on my model, Epson Photo R340

Hi Jacqui,
I got an email today supposedly from you but it looks like spam and I didn't open the attached link. It was sent to a whole lot of other addresses as well. No message just an attached link. Looks like the gremlins may have invaded your address books.
Kind Rgds,
Michael

Hi Jacqui, First of all you need to download the service manual which I've placed here: app.box.com/s/0zzmq1l8iumqvbs1fwzhg9ha5gsedkk9. Don't have a heart attack! You don't need to know most of what's in there. You can't clean the printer ink pads. At least, I wouldn't try it. They'll be a disgusting mess, and you'll need some cleaning chemicals to even attempt it, rubber gloves, a mask, etc. What we need to find is a source for replacement pads. They're made of felt. That's what I did with my Canon printer. I'll have a hunt around to see if I can find a source for you. One takes the main chassis apart and then lifts the printer mechanism out. Then, wearing gloves, one removes the pad(s) and place it (them) in a plastic bag, then wipe away all the congealed ink in the bottom of the ink pad tray using something like isopropyl alcohol (NOT for drinking). The new pad(s) go in and the printer is reassembled. Good if you can find some technical help, though. Regards, JohnG.

OK John, Just had the heart attack! that all seems good, just like Rocket Science to me lol, Let me know if you find any more or where I can get the replacement, I might have some technical help, but nothing definite yet, a friend of a friend who works at a school in the Technical IT Dept, but I won't know until he starts back in a week or so and speaks to him, so anything I can get info on in the mean time will help for sure.
Thanks again Jacqui
good news is I have isopropyl alcohol and the rubber gloves

Okay Jacqui, Yep! Understand about the heart attack. Just remember the service manual is about almost everything that can go wrong. I haven't read it yet, I just went and found it for you and posted it. But, after a quick browse, it looks similar to the Canon one. Only a small part of it is relevant. I've just done a quick internet search on "epson printer spares" and came up with quite a few hits. I'll try to do some refinement during the day. I've just moved house (6th August) and so I'm pretty busy getting it sorted. Laying new floors, replacing doors and skirting, wallpapering, painting, and so on. My arms ache! Not so much fun as 70 approaches. Oh, well! I'll report back when I have more. Regards, JohnG.

Hi Jacqui, Just a quick update with some info I found. Try this site for an explanation of the problem (if it is an ink pad full problem). waste ink pad problem. Still looking for the solution. Perhaps an "ink tank" as mentioned will prove a better option than replacing the pad. N.B. they say "don't use chemicals" just lots of water! Sorry for the duff info. Regards, JohnG.

Hi John, Thanks for that, I looked at that web site, but can't see where they tell you anything about the ink waste tank as apart from contacting the manufacturer, the only solution they seem to have fro the R340 is buy their software, but I'm always suspicious of a company that has no contact details apart from an email, when you read through the small print it also sounds like they can take more money from you than the actual purchase price of the software, I'd be interested to know from anyone if they have ever tried it an it works ok.
