When I first joined the forum about 7 or so years ago there were a hell of a lot of active members posting on loads of different subjects. There only seems to be a nucleus of 15 to 20 people who log in here on a regular basis now.
I belong to another forum for Gretsch guitars and they get about 50 to 60 different posts a day and have a wordwide membership of thousands. I realise that there are lots of different reasons that people choose to either look at or join a forum, but do you all think that the days of the 'humble midi file' are all but over?

I think the forum has been quiet for some time now,it seems to be about five or six swapping files and not much chat, not like it used to be.I do think that the midi file days are more or less done which is a pity in my opinion,I wouldn't want to work with MP3s or flash cards, must be my age. Ian,what is the Gretsch guitar site you're on,On Utube there is a tribute to Chet Atkins, and there's three guys on there playing Gretsch guitars, all finger pickers and they are brilliant. Geordie

I periodically put some of my midi experiences and thoughts into some posts as I think about and have the time to write them, and hope that they would stir up the pot a bit especially in slower times, just a few comments here and there in response to them on different subjects relating to MIDI. There just seems to be here quite a few folks who just happen to like doing a lot more reading than posting, judging from the reads on the posts versus the responses from those. Personally I can't explain the decline, after all,I've only been a member for a little while compared to a lot of others here. As far as my music likes and dislikes,I'm good enough on knowing MIDI and also programming/editing to my liking that I'm totally sold on MIDI with all it's advantages, and just can't go the way of mp3 or backing audio tracks. I've thought about mixing in my own made vocal audio samples triggered of course by MIDI,and ONLY for vocals being that since I can't do the harmonies AND also the main vocal at the same time if they are not singing the identical line and doing two separate things. Of course I haven't tackled that yet,and not sure I want to fully MIDI automate to being that "complete"..But in closing,I will be a strong advocate for MIDI until my time is up.
Take Care
Mike

Geodie/Mike, Here is the link for the Gretsch site, www.gretsch-talk.com/forum/index.php . I also prefer working with midi files to mp3's, I enjoy customising the file to suit my preferences. With mp3's they are what they are, with my midi file player I can skip to different parts of the song while I am singing. This allows me to add extra chorus's verses or lead breaks on the fly. I suppose this thread begs a different question, what is the future of the humble midi file? Ian PS, Mike, I thoughourly enjoy reading your posts, they must really take some effort to compose.
