Can someone point me in the right direction . I'm trying to read up on inputing drum tracks on Cakewalk. I've tried the manual with no success. Is there a book or website that explains how to do this in language that I would understand.
Thanks Eddie

Hi Frank I'm just trying to understand how to write one . I'm ok with inputing notes on staff. It's the information regarding track properties , bank changes etc. that I'd like to understand a bit better. I've no idea how to change a drum kit either. I'm using Cakewalk pro audio 9 and yes I know how to get into piano roll, but I'm not familiar with it for writing purposes.
Thanks for your help Eddie

Thanks for your help Eddie Drum kit prog allocation at bottom of.... www.pgmusic.com/tutorial_gm.htmHave a look on a working file ....drums on CH 10 bank 0 in tile screen.....use piano roll......pencil[top left hand side]tap the piano key for the appropriate drum then click on its position in the bar you want it.[note duration not requires in the drum kit]To erase use eraser top left hand side.Once you have a pattern written in cut and paste.[Much easier to get one from another file and modify].I suppose this is as clear as mud !!Play one in off your keyboard may be easier.

I use CWPA 9,and 90% of the time like Frankie I edit existing tracks, but the other 10% are tracks that I play on the keyboard's keys to input them. You can get a lot more of technical edits with event and piano roll as your fingers can only move so fast and sometimes don't go where you want them to at the correct time. Sorry I can't be of more help...I would ask your questions on the Cakewalk Forum and post under "Pro Audio 9" questions. It's a long shot because it looks like hardly anyone visits there anymore, but it's worth a shot. With some luck, you will get some detailed answers and help there.. forum.cakewalk.com/default.aspxTake Care Mike

Thanks Mike. I've recently retired so I've got some time on my hands.I'm trying to read up and understand all about midi. Like you I've just been editing pre recorded files, mostly but would like to "dabble " a bit deeper. All the sites I've visited so far seem to think that we all know the basics E.G. I'm trying to understand /read about Interpolate and it's all going over my head at the moment. I've got some links, from Frank and your good self to investigate so we'll see how it goes. Thanks for your input.

Eddie Like most instructions they are written by technicians who do not understand Musco's jargon.Just remember to save after each attempt and use the go back function if you cock up.It's all fun and you will let out a few "DOH'S" during the learning curve.

Your right Frank but I'm afraid the language is a bit stronger than DOH

Here's one of the problems I'm trying to solve If you look at the right hand side column, all values are at zero, therefore drums don't play. Is there a way to assign a value all at once or do you have to do them one by one

Thanks frank, but that changes the second from right column not the far right one, which I think is more to do with time . I think you're right, it's something to do with Interpolate, but I've tried it a few times with no success.

Eddie
Don't think that those numbers on the far right have any effect on you not getting sound as far as I know they're just the note durations . If you wanna send on the file I can check it out for you .
Interpolate although a great tool can be a bit advanced if your only starting off and I doubt if that's your prob anyway .

Change your 2nd programe 7 to 11 [expression] Barry is correct the 0's in that column is ok as it is gate time.Drums are auto.

Thanks guys. Interesting , because when I manually change these zeros to 1 the drums play. Frank, you'll have to give me a step by step idiot guide re the 2nd programme advice lol
