This mixer is the mate to my Fostex A-80 (8 channel reel to reel), but now I use it as a mic pre-amp for close micing my acoustic kit. It has 8 in and 8 out so i can feed individual mic signals into my multi-channel digital sound card and record my kit digitally. This shows my old 16 channel Yamaha mixer, that we used to use onstage. I no longer play with bands (other than online), and so all of this stage gear doesn't get used anymore. I do all my mixing through my DAW now, so this mixer is in storage, but I still have a full PA. This shows cakewalk open with a drum track (multitracked), on the editor. I have done a lot of MIDI sequencing in my time but I also quickly integrated MIDI triggering into our live stage show, along with our keyboardist who triggered onstage with his keyboard too. Notice the BossPads mounted on my kit above the snare. So I could trigger from any number of MIDI sound sources live through our PA. Those were the days of extended drum solos and trade offs of drums and percussion between Kevin and I (keyboardist).

I didn't snap any pictures of it but there is a set of V-drums near the computer there too for when i want to play a totally MIDI drum kit. I guess i wanted to show more how I integrated MIDI into out live show with the bosspads mounted on the acoustic kit. I do a lot of drum tracks using the V-drums now, so I use MIDI quite heavily in my studio productions now. I have a choice. Acoustic or midi and I can mix/match.

Nice pix,Freddy...I work with someone now who has a combination of acoustic and a setup of that lovely Roland kit, those V-drums rock, man!
I'm a huge Roland fan, using a Fantom as my main workhorse on gigs now. I'm eventually going to trigger some of his sounds on a few of the tunes we are working up. Some of those kits sound so darn good I'm thinking about kidnapping his set for a day,and just sample till I can't sample no more. LOL
Question: If I were to do this, could I just get the V module? Or do I need the pads as well to trigger those sounds?
Take Care
Mike

Or do I need the pads as well to trigger those sounds? Take Care Mike The module is the brain, so you could trigger from any trigger. I think you said you have a Korg Trinity too right? It's been awhile but I remember being quite impressed with the sounds and the mixes I heard coming from that one. I too like V-drums but there is a lot I can't do with one of those kits that I can do with an acoustic kit. I love being able to plug in the sounds i want for my kit, but the response of the V-drums I have leaves a little to be desired. I could probably go in and tweak the parameters (and I did) and help the way it feels and acts as I play them but there is nothing that compares to a real woodshell drumkit with new heads for warmth and response. Most of what I do the V-drums are fine but once in awhile I just want to play an acoustic kit. Also I am a drummer and writer and producer, so I usually don't want to spend a lot of time tweaking parameters and fine tuning etc. I will usually just play it like it is and then do the fine tuning with the DAW in edit mode. There are pros and cons to both. From a performance aspect I prefer acoustics, and from a production aspect I much prefer MIDI. There is a whole cirriculum to close micing and acoustic kit and then mixing it. Plugins and treatments. Gating etc. I have done some of that but I am marginal at it at best. With MIDI it's much easier to produce. I probably will never get good at the drum tech stuff, and engineering because I don't spend the time with it. I am a producer, writer, and arranger first and that's what I spend my time with. Here's my latest. I'm looking for vocals for this. sites.google.com/site/fjatestsite/home/pull-me-under
