I hate the idea of anyone nomatter how talented they are seeking fame and fortune by standing in line for a couple of hours, then shedding endless tears and claiming they are doing it for their children or parents to give them a better life.

I try to steer clear of it but my children all love it. I term it as 'car crash' TV. I have a friend who's son auditioned for Britains got talent, he studies at the Royal College of music in London as is a fantastic guitarist, and he got nowhere. Its not talent they want, they need to be able to market people.

Ian I'm certainly NOT a fan of the show, but have watched it in the past to get an idea of what it was about. I can imagine me on stage after my performance, and Simon would probably as usual make a crude statement..I'd make headlines on tv only because the next thing you would see is me strangling him with a midi cord on a live broadcast. LOL I believe that Ian is right. They are only looking for certain individuals for marketing purposes..I mean, look at the awesome talent that already got kicked off in place of someone who really was not that good talentwise, but had that audience appeal,be it good looks,or style? You gotta appeal to that audience, they control your destiny,no matter how good and talented you are...It's SUPPOSED to be a talent competition, but it really is just a contest for highest public acceptance. There is a small good side of things however, and that IS the FREE publicity. You couldn't get this kind of mass numbers of people to see you even with a huge amount of money, and you can BET that those individuals that are talent awesome that do get kicked off the stage, chances are super high that producers/publishers/someone in the viewing audience with the right music connections of all the millions watching the show will see just how talented they are,and get in touch with them and move them on the right track, taking them to the next level. Forget about the X factor! It should be about the music,it's evidently NOT here. Same goes for the Idols show as well. It's good to market yourself to OTHER people who can help you in your musical career, not just do what the audience or mass public wants or thinks you can do,regardless of your talent. Because if you do that, then that my friends makes you a puppet..Control your own strings,or let the people that you KNOW very well that keep you in their best interest control your strings..At least for a little while. As long as the ratings are what they are,and starstruck people all abound, the X factor and the IDOL shows are unfortunately gonna churn on in tv land. Just my opinion of course Take Care Mike
