I felt sorry for Mitchel; we all know he's an excellent bowler, but on this occasion he just was too far off target to be effective. I too hope he performs to his more customary standard tomorrow so that when/if England beat the Aussies again i don't want my cousin in Queensland making more excuses ;d

Well it`s all setup for an exciting finish to the ashes series i remember saying when England won the last test not to discount the Aussies or get them angry and look what happened England got hammered, it also looks as if they are thinking of a retrograde [good word that] step in thinking of bringing back Mark Ramprakash {shades ot the time they brought back cowdry and may lol] to bat at the age of forty to me that is the same as bringing back willis or even botham but i hope it works [thats if it happens] England always seem to fall back on the old guard when things get tough. I hope that the match will be exciting and full of runs
weegeo---------- Soon to be 60 dusting off his bat waiting the call to open lol lol

Well done to the Pommies - a deserved win.
You should see the bunfight it's causing over here - baying for selector's blood and calls for Ponting to stand down - all bloody nonsense if you ask me - it was simply a matter of being outclassed.
regards
Warren

Warren You still have one of the best sides in the world, and Ricky Ponting would still hold his place in any test side in the world. He was still very gracious in defeat and he went up even further in my estimation because of this. The other thing to bear in mind is who have you got who is better placed to replace him. I say stick with him and just find yourselves another Warnie or McGrath, who were real match winners. I would just ask why you didn't play Hauwitz.

Well done to England. A great victory over the Aussies, in fact, any win over the Aussies is great, isn't it But seriously, well done to them, but I hope and pray England get trashed when they play Ireland on Thursday in Belfast. Anyone going to this? I hear all tickets are sold out.

I hope to be there hope it`s a good game though What an absolute brilliant ambassador for his country Ricky Ponting is his comments on Englands win was brilliant even though you could see on the inside he was hurting very badly,as for taking the captaincy of him i think that would be mad he is an outstanding world class cricketer it would be hard to pick a world team without him in it so hard luck Ricky Ponting but i think you should be proud of your efforts if only your team had the same effort

That is a good point, George. In fact, some commentators on Sky suggested that apart from some individuals, Pontin, for one, this particular Australian team is not up to the standards of old, which is something I agree with. But then again, as an England fan [when it comes to Cricket, and only then if they're not playing Ireland ] I am not complaining.

Very true Pat but they are a team that is in a rebuilding situation having lost 2 great bowlers and 3 outstanding batsmen it would have been criminal if England hadn`t beaten this team. It would have been amazing to watch Shane Warne bowling on that pitch he would have taken all 10 wickets lol anyway thats the Ashes for now

Indeed, so we can only imagine what things may have been like, however let's not forget that the Aussies had a fully fit team back in 2005 when England did the good. This time around both teams were under par, England lost Peterson, and Flintoff was only marginally fit, but despite this still managed to be there for the lads and help England pull off another great win. Now we have a new-ish England team to look forward to, Broad is finally starting to come into his own; that 5 wicket take was a joy to witness, wasn't it. And young Jonathan Trott looks like he's already established himself with his century. I am really looking forward to the 20-20 next week
