Hi Guys I think a few of you may have got some odd emails from me recently, sorry about that, but I never sent them, I'm also getting odd emails from people in my address book, so something weird is going on, I've taken Barry's advise and changed my password so hope it may stop now, but if you have any odd emails with hyperlinks beware as they are not from me. funny enough it started when I put my email on a midi request on here. you can always message me on here in the private messages if your not sure . Jacqui

Hi Jacqui,
Yup! When I logged into my email account this morning there was a message allegedly from you. As soon as I looked at it I realised it wasn't from you as all it had was a link which, needless to say, I didn't follow!
A little while back I posted about how to create a 'strong' password. Use a mixture of letters and numbers plus a few punctuation marks and intermingle them a bit if you can. Where you're allowed, and most email accounts do allow this, try to make them a dozen or more characters in total. Don't use anything in it that people might be able to guess, like your own or immediate relatives names or birth dates. Something a bit obscure but which you can easily remember.
BeA'19Tl%63Es might be a good intermingling of Beatles 1963 with dog ear and percent and mixed upper and lower case letters. An even better one would be e.g. to spell the name backwards. The more you can mess around with the construction, whilst still retaining memorability for you, the better. Be imaginative then, before you forget it, write down a clue to the words and numbers used e.g. "Ins%Ect'Year" might work.
Most email password change pages tell you how strong the password is.
Kind regards, JohnG.

If I had that password John you'd never hear from me again, I'd never get logged in anywhere lol ;D I've a book of passwords, I sick of them, I don't get what the point is of these emails anyway? I actually noticed it's worse if I have my email shown on here, in my profile, so that's why I added it to any post, but even that seems vunerable. then we have the pin numbers, don't get me started on that....... nice one Kev

One way that I've seen for choosing a password is to use the initials from an easy to remember phrase, eg:
My Name Is Jacqui Dean From Essex = MNIJDFE
If you need to include numbers, you can use your age = MNIJDFE21

The mixed upper and lower makes it more secure (and email logins, unlike some others, do recognise cases). The addition of a few punctuation marks and extending the length to 12 characters makes it a strong password. But MNIJDFE is guessable IMHO because it's kind of obvious. However try this one IAtonlFP with some added numbers and special characters. Have a guess what that might be. I'll post the answer later on. Regards, JohnG.

I agree, John, that was fairly guessable, I just used it as an example. Better to use something less obvious, but at the same time, something that you can remember.
