Something I am interested in.
Tablets, I saw a chap using an ipad on stage yesterday, he said he would not use anything else, I know Barry uses one, what I'd like to know is apart from price difference..... what does an ipad have that makes it better for gigging over any other Tablets, I was looking at some but wanted one with ports like HDMI & USB, something that the ipads don't seem to have, but is there something I'm missing with an ipad that makes it worth spending the extra buck to use on gigs? maybe someone can enlighten me.

Jacqui Well its like most things in life you pay for what you get I suppose........what attracted me to the iPad was the Reliability /Durability Longer Battery Life(7 hours approx) /Internal Storage as opposed to SD Cards. I saw a local musician using one had a chat with him and I was instantly hooked no more disks or song books just attach to your mic stand and away you go and 10" screen size with excellent graphics... PURRFECT!! Support is second to none with Apple Forums Videos and Tutorials all over the net so you'll never be stuck for help in any situation. The Apps as well over 300.000 and you being an Ipod user have over half a million Apps as well. No Android would ever come close to that Having said that though the Apps itself wasn't the telling factor in me buying one although I do use a few just for gigging such as Live Trax Pro as a player and I just copy and paste over my lyrics 10 sec job. Nice to know though that sometime in the future I have the option of using them there are Apps for almost everything out there nowadays Some people wouldnt touch Apple products because they feel they're overated and overpriced but I feel If I'm gonna pay150-200 for an Android with maybe little customer support and nowhere to turn when I'm in trouble why not got the full hog with something thats proven and tested and that'll hold its value if looked after well Cover /Screen Protector/Case etc .its worth investing that extra bit. As I'm only using it for gigging I'm not really interested in HDMi or USB Ports but who knows at a laterr stage I might but that too can be overcome by buying an iPad Camera Connection Kit don't know the ins and outs of this but I do know it has HDMI and USB capabilities www.maclife.com/article/feature/seven_hidden_features_ipad_camera_connection_kitSo all in all it does the job perfect for me and as you have noticed most of the Apps nowadays are nearly all iPad compatable . So only you can decide Jacqui but I think its money well spent I have the Ipad 2 but gonna get myself an iPad 1(cheaper) as a backup just in case (you never know someone might drop a pint of Guiness on it ;D )2nd hand you'd be surprised the deals out there. The iPad if desired can also be easily cheaply and safely Jailbroken (Unlocked) lifting Apples Restrictions allowing endless possibilities so your not "married" to Apple for life as is the misconception. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking Best of luck anyway Rgds Barry

What's the difference between ipad 1 and 2 Barry, and do you find the sound is as good as you had with the SDJ Player?

Well a friend of mine got the iPad 1 and looking at his setup it looks and sounds much the same as mine. The Ipad 2 is def lighter and has a front and back camera and other features which really don't interest me as I say I'm just gonna use it for gigging . A more detailed comparison is here if you wanna look it up www.howstuffworks.com/tablets/ipad-and-ipad-2-difference.htmSoundwise I notice no real diff between the SDJ and Ipad its all down to what equipment your playing your files through no point in having great trax on your iPad and playing it through crappy sounding gear ;D Barry

Me No have crappy sounding gear ;D I just wondered because the chap I spoke to who was using one the other night was using an ipad2, but said he was getting an ipad1 as a back up, one thing he said is if you use it for gigs, don't use it for other stuff like Internet, and general use, so I figure if I was going to get one and only be using it for gigging, an ipad1 might be sufficient, I just thought it may have upgraded sound or something much more Superior, do ipads have latest systems like Android, Jelly Bean, Ice Cream..... Vista, XP, windows 7 & 8, is ipad2 the latest, or can sofware be upgraded to latest on any ipad? I will have a read of that link on them now.
