Folks
I have a Vintage Framus Star bass Guitar. It appears to date from the late 50;s...early60;s. Do any of you know anything about value. Its similiar, but not the exact model used by Bill Wyman many years ago, and also ,I believe, by the Beatles.
I have contacted Framus directly, and they are in the process of determining the exact details . Just wondered if any of you had experience with old Guitars.

I'm guessing that it looks something like this? ;D Although this one has had its pickups replaced and moved their positions. Or not? JohnG.

From research I've just done, it seems the Star Bass was first introduced in 1956.
Jet Harris from the original Shadows used one in the late 50s. The one Bill Wyman used was a slightly later model, with a larger body, from the earlyish 60s.
It seems! JohnG.

Folks
Ive now had a response from Framus Vintage, having sent them pics. It is a Star Bass, 5/149, 1960 model. Unfortunately, the condition is not perfect. They suggest having it restored, as it is , in their words " a valuable rare Guitar". I might consider this....finding someone to do the work could be a problem though. If anyone knows of a reputable source, id be delighted to know.

If you want to sell it dont restore as collectors prefer to do it themselves.

Frank
Thanks for that info....was not aware of that. Im very undecided about selling. Ive had it for years...though, its been in the Attic for quite a while. If I could get decent money, then perhaps I will part.

Have to agree with Frankie on this 1 if you retore it you`ll lose a lot of the value from it as it will be seen as restored!! My friend owns a 71 Fender Jazz Bass and it has hardly a coat of paint on it he was also advised to `restore`it but sought advice first and discovered that it would be worth maybe £1,000 restored but in it`s original condition upwards of £3,000 BUT only on the mainland or in the states,so if your thinking of selling best to keep it as it is and sell it on the mainland Hope this helps

I collected vintage guitars in the 80s and had a full pre CBS collection of Fenders. I also had a 1957 Gretch 6120 the Duane Eddie one not the Eddie Cochrane one it had the G brand. I bought it in Gruhn Guitars Nashville for $2800 in 1988 and sold it back to them for $5000 in 1993. I bought all but two of my Fenders from them and sold them inc the two which I didn't buy from them. I didn't have to contact them as to selling them. They contacted me. They might be worth having a look at if your going to sell. My contact was a guy called Dan Greene. Don't know if he would still be there. Perhaps not............Hope this helps......Gerry.
