I think this may have been dealt with previously, but I cant seem to locate the topic. I am now using Showplay, and, after some initial hesitation, I have to say, I am now very comfortable with it. If anyone would like a little comentary on its merits, I would be happy to oblige....or answer any questions.[non technical] I do have the problem of , what I can only describe as "distorted" instrument sounds....only on occasions. One way to eliminate, is to shut down, and re open the program. Obviously, this is a nuisance. It only appears to occur in Midis that have Jazz Guitar, or Violin. Showplay has a facility to delete Sysex events, and I thought this was the answer to the problem....but, sadly not. It happened today, and when I looked for Sysex events, it said there was none. If anyone can give a little comment on how to solve this, I would be very greatful.

Probably best to put a Gen Midi reset at the start of each file.

Many thanks for your response Frank.
I sent this issue to the manufacturers of Showplay. Even though its Sunday, they responed immediately. They asked what Synth I was using, and since I use a lapptop, its the inbuilt Microsoft GS Wavetable synth. The software has a facility whereby one can choose GM, GS, XG, or a few others. They suggest choosing GS for this synth, and set Reset to Sysex. For those of you familiar with Midi...I guess this makes sense. I will see how things go now....oh and by the way, it has its own Synth built in...so I have a choice.

Its quite good, but I have to say I prefer the Wavetable. Maybe its just that Im more used to the Instrument sounds from it.Showplay synth produces a sharper Instrument sound...if you get my meaning. Overall Im very happy with the performance, and having worked with some files since I made the GS change, the problem seems to be resolved. I have not gigged yet....so the jury is still out.
