Hi to all the strummers out there on the forum. I would be interested to know what make of strings people are using and the life expectancy you get from them. There are so many different makes and types that the choice is almost endless. I expect that like me you find a make/model and stick with them , I have been using ernie ball regulars for 10 years now and allthough they are good, are there any better ones that offer more 'zing' and durability. By the way for the first time ever last friday night I broke a string whilst playing live. When it happens and you are not expecting it, it throws you right out. Its like trying to write a letter without using your thumb. Any feedback very welcome.

I have to agree with Tiny.I used Ernie Ball's for years and tried Elixir.I would never change now.I have sweaty hands but the elixir strings keep their zing for ages and i've never had one break yet. They are a bit more expensive but well worth the extra. Hope this helps Regards Eddie

When I did play the guitar (an old trusted Hofner with a tremolo arm), I used Ernie Ball too, though I would try the Fenders at times. I used to love the wah wah pedal and freaked out on the T wah !! Aaaaaaah, how I wish I could play the guitar again !!

I've been using Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9/42's for years ... Tommy's just tipped me the wink re: the Elixir Nanowebs and I aim to try them out in the future ... just put a new set of Ernie Ball strings on the Strat so it'll be a while before I try the Elixirs. I don't gig so I get 6 months to a year out of a set:)

I have just fitted a set of the elixers to my Sheraton and they feel good. I dont know wether its phsychological but they definately feel different to ernies balls. Thanks to all who recommended them, I think I am going to like them, especially as a string change every 3 months is a bit of a bind. If I can get 9-12 months out of them with a bit of care, they are diffinately worth the extra few quid.

I use La Bella Silk and Steel on my acoustic 12 string, love the feel of them new and old, last about 8 weeks playing 2 nights a week (I use them for about 12 weeks but always feel better when they're changed). Also for the 12 string they require less tension to achieve pitch so are easier to play and put less strain on the neck.
I tried elixer strings a few years back but didn't like the feel of the coating but if you do like coated strings Clear Tone strings are also very good.
For my strat I only use Fender pure nickel Bullets, sound awesome last two weeks but they're cheap so swap them clean the neck and love playen em!
Also have a few boxes of Dean Markley Regular and Ernie Ball Super Slinky's kickin' about for other guitars.
Pet hate D'Adario strings! lol

The Elixer's for me every time, I have never had a set of strings that don't rust within a month. These Elixer's are still going strong without any sign of corrosion, A bit more expensive but worth every cent.

After using them for 4 weeks now, if the Elixers carry on like this for another 9 months I cant see me ever changing to any other brand, they just feel so nice. Thanks to all who suggested trying them, and to anyone who has not yet done so, give them a try.
