Hi guys I'm not saying our Duo are cats whiskers and the best in our town. We play good music, we are popular, we are very disciplined, we are well dressed in uniforms, we dont drink or smoke. Generally, you can say , we have a good reputation !! We are reasonable in our fees and never grumble about paying longer hours. We hardly take breaks and even if we do, we take just a few minutes. Yes, I think we are a good decent duo. Why is it that people like to bargain when we quote our fees ? The first comment they make is that there are other bands who charge less . WHY OH WHY DONT THEY CALL THEM TO PLAY ? We quote for our music with and without sound equipment. We have a decent system which can handle inddor venues comfortably. For gigs outdoors or in big auditoriums, we suggest they hire a sound guy who is good and who gives us good, clean wholesome sound. Why do they have to bargain, try to beat us down? Take us or leave us and find some one else, but dont preach to us. UGH !!!!!!!!! Many many times, we get paid more than we asked for and that really makes us feel GOOD !!! Just pay us what we are worth............ is that a tough ask ? What is your take on this , guys ?

I thought those days were long gone!!! must confess it was always one of my pet hates you`d have done your show and the guy comes up and says`what do i owe you`i would always respond with £20 or £30 quid more and they very quickly remember what the agreed fee was and that put paid to any discussion about the fee lol lol

They were kinda hoping you wouldnt rememmber ....... trying their luck !!! Gosh !! Its happened a few times and I've even told them it was free !! Honestly, I wouldnt mind free gigs instead of all this bargaining. The DJs get paid more for "playing our music" ........... sctatch around and earn more !!! Well, thats another subject, huh ?

In the business I was in, Shyam, negotiation on daily rate was normal.
I always started by quoting well over (double) what I expected to be paid, and negotiated down from that. It became a bit of fun just to see how much I could get. Just once or twice I got the initial asking rate. If it's done in a good humoured way it can be quite pleasurable.
Although, like you I expect, I deplore the scratching away of the modern DJ, I dare say the expenditure in record purchases can be quite high? But there's little "art" to it IMO.

I would always do special deals for 2 nights straight,so as not to have to break the gear down and move to another gig.
