Using a USB hub with my S 910

Hi guys
I've been using a 1x4 USB Hub for nearly two years and used two pen drives . Never had any trouble whatsoever ...... till now.
I think I wound the thin cable a little too tight and the connection is faulty
I bought a new one and found that I could play midis but the MP3 and WAV files couldnt be recognised.I diagnosed the problem ........ I had got a fast USB 2.1 whereas the earlier one was 1.1.
Anyone had this problem ?
