Like most musicians I know, I suffer terribly from GAS. No not the flatulent variety but "Gear Acquisition Syndrome". Have you ever heard of a guitarist with ONLY ONE guitar? I doubt it. Or only one effects pedal, only one set of speakers, amps etc etc. If you ever go to a music equipment shop it is always full of those who have got loads of gear who are buying more. But we never seem to sell any of it, it just ends up filling the house or garage. If it's not a registered medical (or psychological) ailment then it should be. My own cure has been to keep out of music shops altogether. If I want something I will send someone to get it otherwise I will come out with several other things as well. Same applies to ebay pretty much. How do others get over this affliction? Now where did I put that catalogue.... ?

OH! Hear, hear Ken. I used to be an avid collector of bits of hi-fi equipment, always changing and upgrading ... until that is I became self-employed. Every-so-often I'd (reluctantly) part with something. Now the youngest bit of kit is probably at least ten years old. The oldest a Thorens TD125 turntable from 1972. However I got bitten by the MIDI bug a while back and have ended up with ... wait for it ... (all Yamaha) a DB50-XG (the first sound blaster daughter board (bought new)), the SW1000-XG (the first PCI quality sound card (bought new)), 2 x MU128s (both eBay), 2 x MU1000s(both eBay), the three synthesiser PLG daughter boards, AN (Prophet 5 emulation), DX (THE synth of the 80s), VL (arithmetic synthesis (great for woodwind and brass)), and an AP piano card, plus the VH (vocal harmony) card (all bought new, before I became self-employed). I bought off eBay a 2nd hand VL70-m (great wind synthesiser) and, a while ago, a Roland SC8850 both of them 'cos they were too good bargains on eBay to miss. Needless to say I don't use them all all the time, but have learnt to use 'em. But can I bring myself to part with them? Aaargh, well ... I just might need to use that particular sound next week, you never know. I guess I should really sell off the two MU128s, they're just gathering dust. The MU1000s have the PLG cards in them, synths in one, the piano module and vocal harmony in the other. That reminds me, I really must dig out my ancient Cheetah MS6 rack mount module and have another play with it. ;D Crazy MIDI geek you betcha! Oh dear! JohnG.
