Anyone wanting to try out windows 7 go to the M$ and download it for free you also get a serial this is still in beta process but i think the the copy lasts for a year hurry up though think the offer stops in June. Best way to install it is to make another partition on your HD and install on there it will dual boot win 7 being the default OS but if you go into control panel and advanced options theres a setting to make your original OS the default one

Thanks for this levi2. Just to clarify a couple of points - there was/is 2 versions of Windows 7 doing the rounds - 1] Windows 7 beta - license expires August 1st 2009 and now... 2] Windows 7 RC (Release Candidate) - license expires June 1, 2010 - this version contains fixes and changes highlighted during the public beta testing. This is a very important question, because Windows 7 Beta and Windows 7 RC each have an expiration date. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to rebuild your test machine using a valid version of Windows before the software expires. Windows will notify you that the expiration process is beginning and two weeks later your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. The Beta expires on August 1, 2009, and bi-hourly shutdowns will begin July 1, 2009. The RC will expire June 1, 2010, and the bi-hourly shutdowns will begin on March 1, 2010. In both cases, you’ll need to rebuild your test PC to replace the OS and reinstall all your programs and data. (Learn more about installing Windows.) taken from www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/faq.aspx [01/06/09] Hope this helps. regards Warren

I can't wait for Windows 7, I need a new computer right now, as my system is getting so old and slow, I don't want to purchase a new one now and get stuck with Vista, so the sooner Windows 7 arrives the better. Some of the reveiws that I have read so far are all positive, so thats a good start.

Hi Steve, You can still get PCs with XP on them, I did recently, an Acer laptop, and I'm well pleased with it. One of the drawbacks of going for a very new operating system is that it takes a while for hardware and software manufacturers to catch up and write drivers or bring out a new program version. XP is a really solid now with SP2 and many musicians swear by it rather than at it. It will take a while, it always has, to iron any bugs out of the latest version of Windows. I found Windows 2000 to be really solid with MIDI, as actually was Win '98. The PC I got was 4 Gig of memory and a 250GB hard disk and a 2 GHz CPU, which is going to last me, I imagine, for another ten years, especially as it has a socket to add an external hard disk. Just my take on it, not everyone will agree. JohnG.

just tried win7 on my laptop!! to be honest it,s not much different from vista!! microsoft seem to be concentrating on visuals rather than a stable solid OS.i can put all the bells and whistles that vista has on my other pc running XP pro!! and it runs without any problems, even the same screens and visuals, but it will only slow down your programs unless you use about 4 Gb of ram!! why cant they take a giant leap back and put the operating sytem onto a flash drive that plugs into the motherboard.it will then boot a lot quicker, and if its locked cannot be changed!! this will stop all manner of bugs trying to stop the system from running!!(just like the old Amiga) a folder then can deal with updates etc!! which can be encrypted and locked so nothing can interfere.so if theres a problem just restart pc and everything is back as it was.if the main running was done in a virtual drive,it would also make this a very stable and secure OS,as bugs cant get a foothold very easy.using firewalls, and a good antivirus, which could be put into an external box before the PC would also speed up the whole process
