Hi Guys.... I got this Takamine accoustic jumbo EN 20 over 20 years old and a bit battered to be honest..ha ha but it keeps going out of tune for some reason after I use a capo....I change my strings fairly regularly had it checked out and had the frets redone the machine heads are fine can't figure out whats going on. I realise new strings will stretch but even old strings go out of tune after one use of the capo (also tried a diff capo)...any suggestions or fixes would be great. I love the guitar and obviously well used to it but I can't work with a constant untuned one like this so might have to change reluctantly so . Cheers guys Barry

Cheers guys Barry Are the strings pegged or thru the bridge ? Do all the strings go out of tune ?Is the neck straight when under load ? Is the Octave true when in tune ?

Thru the bridge Frank its mainly the first and second strings that go out but my fourth seems to break a lot as well for some reason... the neck is fine its a digital tuner so the octave seems to be spot on ok.
I've never had this problem before just in the last 6 months maybe it could be the strings Martin 10's light gauge might revert back to the 12's and see how I go I'm pretty heavy handed on the strumming at times but it still don't explain the tuning issue though .
I haven't really changed anything I've done over the years if the neck was weakening could this cause it you think ?

Can you get to the thrust rod if so you could give it a gentle tweak as a last resort. I would try changing the E and A for a slightly heavier. Is the string breaking at the nut or bridge. Are the fret wires okay none sitting higher than others.

Frank... Ya the frets and bridge are fine just got them done recently .......can't access thrust rod unfor Ill get some new strings heavier gauge and I'll see how I go. Another thing thats started happening lately can't change my E 1st string keeps snapping so using a B 2nd instead broke 4 strings one day alone . Seems to be some kind of tension issue dunno losing patience at this stage anyway Ill try some heavier strings tomorrow and let ya know how I go thanx again Barry
