I have a file that is "stuttering". i've tried to go through it and remove unwanted data ,as per John's tutorial, without much success. I hasten to add, not John's fault--mine for being thick (lol) Would some of the midi experts like to have a look at it and make it usable. Thanks in advance
Eddie
PS I'm using Cakewalk pro 9

Hi Eddie..... If its a Yamaha sequence probably controler data from previous experience I found controler 84 to be the culprit....try deleting it and see if there's any change . No Harm in trying but keep a backup.... Regards Barry

Could be a number of reasons, too many notes playing at the same time, gate times too long or too short, control 64 missing or wrongly allocated. Dont allow syst ex commands on opening file. If none of the above. Isolate the track you think is doing it and go thru the event list.Keep a copy of original first. Can I have a go at it also ?

More than likely one of the Megavoices could be causing it , as Frank says its a process of elimination but Id say your problem is between trk 11-16 ....let us know how you go . Ill go through the Interpolate with you if you have no luck... Barry

My thinking is that Trk 12 is the problem it is quicker to delete rather than muck around with it.

Hi Eddie, If you bung a copy of the file my way I'll try to sort it out for you. It usually only takes ten minutes or so. Sorry I didn't notice this thread earlier, other problems. As a general rule, if you have a bad file and want it looking at, just send it to me with an explanation of the problem and an outline of your playback system, so I don't destroy needed data. It might be SysEx messages, but stuttering as it plays is more likely to be too many pitch bend or volume/expression messages in various tracks. I have a macro in XGworks that 'thins' this data. It's also in Cakewalk programs I think. You can also find all the controller codes etc at the MMA site. The MMA (the MIDI Manufacturers Association) is the creator and owner of the MIDI standards worldwide so it is the source of the information posted elsewhere. Their 'tech specs' can be found here: www.midi.org/techspecs/index.phpThe 'Table of MIDI messages' and the 'General MIDI level 1 sound set', which are probably identical to the ones at muscript, are the ones you need. Prepare to be baffled! Regards, JohnG.

As a general rule, it pays to look at the the Event List, in any cakewalk program, to try to see the problem. By using the little icons at the top you can show or exclude any parts of the MIDI data that you choose. By clicking on the note head, which will change colour, you can hide or display the notes. If you hide them you will only see control data.
The other important one is to view Sysx and then find what messages have been embedded. But neither pro audio nor sonar are sysex friendly to the programmer IMO. I always use XGworks for sysex. Much easier even for non XG stuff. It doesn't help you calculate checksums for GS though.

Eddie File plays perfect on my setup thru Cakewalk where does the stuttering come in or is it through the whole song ?..... Barry Mine also, I suspect Eddies sound card may have a problem with the number of notes played in unison[16 note poly ?] See what the "Guru"has to say.
