A few people now have vista as there operating system and some like me still have winxp. The reason i still have xp is the compatability of drivers ie midi and other software that is unstable. in vista. I am getting a new Pc today pre installed with vista but the good thing is if i want to i can downgrade to xp or back up to vista with the restore disks provided. But before i down grade to xp ive been doing a google about this and there is a prog called virtual pc which installs a small util and when you run it you can install and run xp progs on it .A lot of you will probably know about this but if not heres a couple of links www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=04D26402-3199-48A3-AFA2-2DC0B40A73B6&displaylang=enwww.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspxi thnk you might need servicepack1 installed on vista for it to work

Thanks for that Levi.
I have Vista since it came out and have had hardly any problems problems. Maybe I am one of the lucky one but apart from some compatible issues very early on I have only positive experiences to report. However, I appreciate many feel happier with XP and will do until they have no choice but to change.

Hi Guys, When i bought this pc ,it had vista Home edition pre-installed,and i couldn't get it to work with my system (cakewalk, roland jv1080) so i had to dual boot my pc with xp as well. It's worked fine since then ,but my question is. Will this virtual pc work with vista home edition as i don't see it listed on the links. Thanks Eddie

Yes, 7 is already in Beta testing, and has been for a while. Rumor has it that it will be better than Vista, by far, and the computer gurus, who make a living at 'guru-ing' have recommended people skip right over Vista and go to 7. Well, we'll just see how good it is. Vista was also supposed to be 'all that'. I'm sticking to XP as long as possible as most of my stuff flat won't work on these newer OS's. I lost abilities I had on 89 when I had no choice but to go to XP. Sure irks me. They keep making you spend, spend, spend on upgrades. Like I'm rich or something? Sheesh. LOL

Hi Levi I had major problems with vista at the start.I had to get a tech come in and dual boot my system with xp.It was way beyond my capabilities. I've been working that way for over a year now and although it works ok it's a bit of a pain to keep switching from one to the other. That's why i was hoping this virtual pc would solve my problems.I'm still waiting on a reply from MS. to see if it works with home edition, but i don't think it will.It seems i'll have to wait for 7.

Hi oldsage i tried to install a copy of the yamaha softsynth on me sons vista but it wouldnt look at it. saying summit about it not being xp and install would be aborted. I know what ya mean about compatability mode i used to do it with xp and win 98. So if ya can get the progs to install it might be a idea like ya say steve try it in compat mode

the latest i've heard from my Techy friend is that Vista home edition will work with virtual pc.The only problem was that xp would run fairly slow. My intentiion was to put cakewalk only onto xp,so he doesn't think that would make any difference to the operation speed. He's coming up next week sometime to try it out so i'll let you know how we get on . Regards Eddie
