Hi all, News of my disappearance has been greatly exaggerated!! (LOL) My apologies for completely abandoning the forum and particular apologies to Barry for having to post the query about my whereabouts. Thanks to Tom and Mark for chipping in on my behalf btw and it really is not true that Tommy is tight ... don't know where such a rumour could come from!! Anyway, I'm perfectly fine despite having just turned 60 and keeping pretty busy musically speaking and with family stuff as ever which is how it should be. Quite simply, as is often the case, a series of conditions lead to me going walkabout. The forum was getting pretty quiet and my other forums were quieter still or folding for all sorts of reasons and I was looking for a site to upload better quality music files to share for collabs and such, without converting to mp3. At that point around July/August, I found SoundCloud which is a place to park and share your music files and I can now upload uncompressed m4a (mpeg4) music files at 320 kbps straight from my Mac without the need to convert. Also the site is a great place for musos of all styles and ability to 'meet' and comment on uploaded efforts and projects and there is much to inspire. So, I started uploading cover versions of songs as instrumentals, still using midi files to cobble a basic backing track together and assigning different instruments to the different midi parts in GarageBand and adding my guitar and synth parts and the occasional vocal and had a lot of fun with this. Then I received a complaint via SoundCloud from a well known prog rock band's management re: copyright issues on 3 of the tunes submitted and removed all prevoius tunes submitted from the site. I decided to only submit my own compositions (after a spell of considering giving up music altogether) and happily I've got into a comfortable groove now and will continue in this vein for a while. My current tunes are at: soundcloud.com/lavallin They're probably not everyone's cup of tea as they are 'soundscapes', rather than the more usual song composition and I'm trying to evoke images with the atmosphere of each purely instrumental piece. Also I've just got a You Tube account in December and started putting up slideshows of images to accompany some of these pieces. To check these out, if you are interested, just click on the You Tube link on my soundcloud page or go to You Tube and search for Lavallin2012 for my channel and current vids. I don't use midis at all now and I suppose that's another reason I'm such a rare visitor to the forum, but I have no intention of leaving and will check in from time to time. I am greatly endebted to many on the forum for pointing me in right direction with many aspects of music making which, when I first joined some years ago now, were a complete mystery to me!! I'm especially endebted to Tom (tiny) on the forum for getting me properly started with the recording side and getting my current guitar tone, & to John Gee for pointing me in the direction of the EWQL stuff. In short, ( a bit late now, after all the waffle above) I'm having fun with SoundCloud just now and it's taking up my time, and I've only kept with this forum, albeit as a very occasional visitor now, but I'll stop by now and again to keep in touch if that's OK? Hi Graham..... Great to hear from you mate....... knew there had to be some reason you hadn't been on here in a while now I know why Just visited your webpage and I'm really impressed brilliant I always knew you'd do well with your original compositions you def have the knack for it. You've also found the right place as well for showing off your talents much better than "myspace" . So glad you've found your musical niche we'll prob never see you again here now ;D Maybe getting reported was the best thing that happened you, at least now you can start your work from scratch and put your own unique stamp on your work with no fear of any copyright issues. I'll pop over to youtube in a while to see what you got......
