I'm off to see the latest Rockabilly Queen in concert in Cambridge this friday. Imelda May comes from Ireland where a lot of hangout members come from, I will let you all know how it goes. From what I have heard about her she puts on a cracking high energy show. Her music is a fusion of Rockabilly, burlesque, and the blues.
Has anyone on here seen her live before?

Wow that was one hell of a show. She was on stage for a full hour and three quarters. She started off with some rock and roll, moved into some swing/burlesque, then finished the last 40 minutes with high octane rockabilly.
Her band were amazing, the drummer played with style and a smile and was really enjoying himself, the upright double bass player slapped his bass like very few other upright bass players can, Daryl Higham the lead guitarist has to be probably the best rockabilly guitarist in the UK, and the other guy was a fantastic multi instrumentalist and percussionist.
Onto Imelda herself, she has a voice the like I have not heard on a young female for years, if Amy Whinehouse sang rockabilly she would have been close but that's all. The up tempo songs were belted out and the ballads were sung with soul.
Her version of tainted love blew everyone away, sang like the northern soul original version not the Soft Cell cover.
Would I go and see her again? You bet! Jerry, when you see her in Dublin next month you are in for a treat. Let us know what you think, and if anyone else is going to see her give us your viewpoint.
The only slightly negative point was that when she was talking to the crowd between a few songs, she has the broadest of Irish accents and talks quite quickly, so she was a little bit difficult for us to understand. I noticed quite a few people look at each other and mouth ' what did she say '.

Great review Ian. Thanks for that. Imelda is pure class and I hope to get to see her live too. As for understanding her accent; well, she is a Dublin lass so no problem for us back here

I forgot to mention her Elvis medley near the end. She is touring Ireland in the next few weeks, anyone from Ireland with the time to spare I would recommend seeing her. It is 3 days since the concert now and I'm still buzzing, and that doesn't happen too much these days, I can be too over critical in my cinical middle age.

"Cynical middle age" eh, Oliver? You just wait 'til you reach retirement age. You'll realise you didn't even know the meaning of the word in middle age! Regards, JohnG.

Your'e depressing me now John. I know what Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry meant with the line 'I hope I die before I get old' in the song 'My Generation'. I have every intention of growing old as disgracefully as I can. I lose count of the number of times my children utter the phrase 'Oh Dad your'e so embarrassing'.

Well....all I can say is "amazing"...one of the best Concerts I have been to. She is a graet artist....two hours, with no Interval. She did have Mary Black, and Paul Brady guesting, but she worked with them...fantastic...then at the end, her sister also guested....and she is pretty good as well. Would recommend her to anyone....Imelda that is!!!
