I have been using the Cakewalk 9 with Windows XP for years without any hassles. Having installed the Windows 7, the Cakewalk just doesnt open and I've unistalled and installed it three times but the result is still the same. Do any of you have a remedy ? I like CW 9 and I hope I dont have to "upgrade" it to be compatible with Windows 7 . Please help !!

Hi Shyam There's a compatability issue with Win 7 as its a much older prog but I prefer this to the Sonar one ....I got it working here on my laptop and desktop so its just a matter of changing the compatability settings hopefully it'll work for you . Ok here's what to do 1) Load CW 2) Right click the CW icon or if you didnt get an icon on your desktop look for the file cwpa it should be in e.g. C:audio/cw or something similar depending where you installed the prog 3.Right click go into Properties /Compatability under compatability mode check the box that says "run this prog etc" 4. Choose Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and at the the bottom tick the box Run As Administrator click apply and ok . Now reboot if you like and restart CW and see how you go . 5. This worked for me but if that doesen't work try a few more in that list of compatable Operating Systems e.g. such as Win 98 /Win /ME Good Luck let us know how you get on ok Regards Barry

Barry, thanks for the advice, but I'm unable to install CW 9 . After going through all the steps, it just hangs up in the final stage and I have to use Control/Alt/Delete yo get the frozen screen off my desktop. I've tried it five times now with the same result Windows 7 sure is good with lots of good features, but unfortunately it seems to be imcompatible with our good old CW 9 iFyou think of any new solution , please do let me know Thanks Barry

Shyam I wouldn't give up that easily it will work I'm sure... it works fine on my friends pc as well and he's running Win 7 . You said it freezes while it goes into the final stages. Well it can take up to 3 mins while it searches for old Cakewalk installation files etc So I'd suggest you go and make a cup of tea and when you return it should be ok ;D Have you tried changing the settings to the Win 98/ME or the Win XP (Service Pack 2) setting . What works for some might not for others . Try that for now anyway and get back to us if you've still no luck ok Cheerz Barry

Hi Shyam If your still having no luck Win 7 also have a feature (needs to be downloaded first) that allows older progs to run on Win 7 I didn't need to download this myself but I've read of others who did and successfully ran older progs successfully. Posting the download link presuming of course its a Genuine copy of Win 7 which I'm sure it is, you'll need first to choose which version your using to download the XP Mode then the Virtual Pc and the link will guide you through the rest . Its a pretty big file but worth the download it if it means you can run your favourite older progs under Win 7 .... Good Luck Barry www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

Hi Shyam,
I am running CW Pro9 on Windows7 Ultimate and I also run Virtual Sound Canvas in XP Mode. To install XP mode into Windows7 you need to have Windows7 Professional or Ultimate. Maybe I was lucky but CW Pro9 installed with no problem on my Windows7.

Thank you Barry ....... I followed your directions and waited and LO !!!!!!!!!! Cakwalk 9 is in my machine now and I'm so relieved. Yes I have the Windows 7 Professional (cracked !!!! ) but before any of you scowl at me, I assure you I'll be getting the genuine article this week , The sad part will be that I have to load all my goodies again which is a real pain ! I have been wise enough to store them in other drives but it still requires lots of work and patience. Thank you all for the very useful advice .................... what would I do without you guys ? !!!
