Hello again every one
Been trawling the net the past while looking at options for playing backing tracks....... Heres a great App I discovered for iphone/ipod etc designed especially for the gigging musician
Not sure how to paste the link but try googling this. BackTrax By Aisle4 Software.
Also.......I think I have cracked how to make a foot controller to start / stop / forward reverse iphone / ipod Im searching for the components at the moment..... When I get around to making it and getting it to work I will put the details up here....
At the moment Im fooling around with an mp3 playing device which is available on the net for €14.99.........needs a bit of engineering to perfect it but it works...............could be a very cost effective way of making a player for gigging
I have it pulled apart at the moment to try and reconfigure wiring etc to make it usable.........Just a bit of Craic
Cheers
Vincent

Vincent I mentioned a while back on how to fit a footswitch to a mini disc player which could be adapted for any playback device if anyone feels inclined to have a go at some soldering. Basically a pause button on most devices is simply pressing a button to produce a momentary short of two of the terminals [under the pause button ] that tells the processor to halt play mode ,and a second press of the button produces a second short on the same two terminals to tell it to restart playback. Now if you can find that two terminals, solder two thin wires from them to say an external 3.5 jack socket [or you can fit it to the casing ],then all you have to do is make or buy a momentary footswitch with a lead and a 3.5 jack plug on the other end and you can then stop and start playback on any device by simply pressing the footswitch Bigmike

Done the momentary switch biznes as far back as 1995 with sony players....worked great especially with the auto pause...track finished, next track lined up ready to go.
about 5 years ago I got a sharp walkman size MD player on ebay for 10 squid to fool around with. It has an extension cable with an inline remote control and headphones output. I took the remote apart and found that all the functions and audio pass through a total of three wires. The remote works via a selection of resistors for each function........a bit of trial and error, some rooting around broken circuit boards for the resistors of the correct value and Voila it works great.........three momentary foot switches operate it. track reverse, track forward and track start/stop.......leaving it completely hands free operation. one AA battery gives enough power for about 30 two hour long gigs. Small clip type bracket found in one of my boxes of junk holds it on to the mike stand. Have gigged it about 5 nights a week for the past 5 years..........amazingly never one ounce of trouble........fits in the storage section of my guitar case. When I started using it I thought it wouldnt last........but there you go....
Im new to the Mp3 biznes and am just looking at the options.
The APP I mentioned in my first post looks like it will make using an iphone/ipod very easy with the with the big buttons and the way the track stops and the next track lines up ready to go. I have pulled the iphone headphones/remote apart and it seems to work on the same principle as the minidisc one does except with four wires to a four pin jack....getting close to getting the right combination of connections and resistors to make it work....so again might be able to make the iphone hands free..........Will work wit ipad, ipod and iphone.....great for guitar players.
Cant say when I will get to finish it but will post the results
Regards
Vincent
