Hi guys I find it uncomfortable if I have to sing in the mornings, do you guys face the same problem ? It makes sense to think that your voice is really rested after a good night's sleep, so why does it sound sluggish ? Evenings/nights are abs.fine !

I think it`s the `norm` for most vocalists to suffer the same i certainly do 1 of the things i hated doing was singing at early weddings i just struggled to project myself it is a strange affliction that perhaps only the legend JG can explain lol

Hi folks,re the singing in the morning discussion i hadn't really thought about it as most of my senior gigs are PM with probably 10% AM...eg..10.30-11.30,however!!!! for the last 6 months since i have been busking i only busk in the mornings,no real reason for it but it does give me the rest of the day to catch up with the normal stuff, shopping, visiting friends, gardening etc most of which Patricia & i do together(music shops excluded) ,what i am saying is that on the days when i am making a fool of myself out there in the Malls i am right into the vocals from about 9.00am & usually finish about 1.00pm when i pack up & head for home,i have never noticed any difference in my singing at all & it certainly does'nt worry me at all,in saying that i must admit that i do spend a bit of time having a chat with my regulars while having frequent "smoko's...coffe breaks not puffing at a ciggie.Weather was fine today so i had a session at my regular spot, had a couple of requests which by chance i had the backing which is really pleasing to myself & also to the person requesting it,i did however get hit for a request which i did not have the backing but i got lucky as it is one i sometimes do acousticly, anyway although it had been a while since i had peformed this one with just ac guitar & vocals i managed to get away with it...it ia a great song..the streets of london..Ralph McTells version,i will include this one in my song list as it did atract a bit of coin plus it was so different performing it that way.One more gig on friday & then we are off for a break (see new post,Simmo's holiday) Once again ..best wishes to all...The Simmo's

Boiled eggs and toast followed by a few whiskeys for breakfast does the trick.

Warming up excercises help at any time of the day. I always try to do at least 10 minutes of mouth and body limbering up before any gig. ( Probably still makes no difference mind you ).

Hi Geordie, many thanks for your kind offer of the midi Streets of London it would be great,i get by at the moment with just a guitar fingerpick style which sounds ok but to have a little extra would certainly add to it.Give us a shout if you ever need anything as i seem to getting quite a collection of midis with the biggest selecton leaning to the older stuff. Best wishes..Terry (Simmo) Ps..i have sent you my email address

My warm up song around the Care homes was "Sit right down and write myself a letter" I used to sing mornings ,noon and nights. The more you sing the easier it becomes. Humming also helps relax the vocal chords.

Well...singing in the mornings i tend to leave to the birds.. Pre-gig i would inhale and exhale for as long as possible to stretch the lungs and diaphragm....that usually does me till the brandy kicks in.. ;D

Good one Jacqui ... Singing mainly at night gigs it takes a lot of "adjustments" to sing at the odd morning/afternoon gigs and more often than not, I sign off by saying " Thank you so much , GOOD NIGHT and God Bless you" ......... lol

I don't do mornings, but I love the night time, just like an owl I often go to bed when the birds are getting up for the dawn chorus, I mostly sing in the afternoon during the week days, normally 2 or 3 pm so that's not too bad, but I don't like singing in the morning at all, used to have a few gigs where they wanted you to start at 10 or 11 am , a real shock to the system, almost had to bring my bed with me LOL. But a vocal warm up is a must, and always start with easy songs, and build up to the more challenging ones later in the programme. la la la la la la la.
