Hi everyone just wondering if anyone was or is using a Floppy disk drive with a USB port in it to play their midi's and are they having any problems with it.I am using a Roland MT 90 sequencer with just the floppy drive but I'm wanting to get one with a USB port so I can put all my midi's on a USB stick,so I won't have to be changing disks all the time.Thx Dave

Hi That is a very interesting question. Does such a floppy drive exist? I hope so because I would like one too. I am going to check the internet right now. Ken

Hmmmm I just checked and it seems this is not a product on offer anywhere - it's probably technically impossible. Are you thinking of an external usb floppy drive?

I'd say doodie is referring to the new Roland MT 90 which has an added usb port enabling you to transfer your midis/ wavs /mp3's etc from your usb scource to the MT 90............. www.zzounds.com/item--ROLMT90U

Hi all I dont know if this is what you are looking for but a company called CPC electronics had an external 7 in 1 drive with a floppy and a usb interface. Their website is www.cpc.co.uk and put in part no.cs15758 in their search facility. It also does smart media cards and sd cards. Hope this may be of some help. Oliver101

The one at cpc.com is not made any more and anyway the usb referred to was the input to a computer. The Amtrade one looks interesting but needs a 5.25" bay. The question is - if a unit or computer doesn't have usb facility then would the usb input operate via the floppy IDE cable? Anyhow my interest was to connect something like this to my Yamaha QY700 which only has a floppy. I suspect that software issues would prevent any such connection. Does anyone have any ideas on this? ....Ken

The Roland MT-90 player has just a built-in floppy. The MT-90U has a USB port which looks as if it will let you plug in a USB card reader or thumb drive. There are floppy drives with USB connectors that might work. I have a SmartDisk FDUSB-TM2 that works like any USB mass storage device and might do what you want. SmartDisk is now owned and supported by Verbatim (www.verbatim.com).
