Hi there
Does anyone use a drum machine in their act, I want to know how you set up a Waltz or a Jive in this machine, it's not in the preset drum patterns. Jacqui

Hi Frankie Not quite, an interesting link all the same, but I need the actual steps of what to press, I saw a friends Yamaha Machine and that has the buttons already with the dance types on it, ie Twist, Tango, Waltz, the Alessis goes through a programme menu, has settings like Techno, Rap, Rock, and then you set out tempo and bpm and bit more complicated, although from what I've read a much better sounding drum machine, I just hoped someone could tell me what I need to set and press step by step in which order, to set up the ones I am looking for, someone who uses one would probably know, but it's looking like the members here are not into drum machines Jacqui I'll keep looking though, thanks for your help

Hi Jacqui Id say the reason your not getting much of a response on this one is Id say most of us have moved on from drum machines at this stage with the arrival of midi files used a drum machine for 15 years myself and it served its purpose well but times have moved on I guess. I understand what your trying to do and a friend of mine who is in Spain now would go through that with you in a few mins but unfor he's uncontactable and I lost his number . In case you dont have the manual I 'm posting a link where you can download it you might still find it a bit daunting but its relatively simple once you program in a few beats . Sorry can't help you with this one not familiar with the SR16 although Ive heard good reports about it . Are you going to gig with this or do you just need a few walz beats ? if so that can be easily done in CW by just finding a midi with a walz beat and just copying and pasting a few bars from it together.... if you need any help gimme ashout ok. Hi Barry Yes I do have the manual, but it does not tell you about setting those drum bests, loads of other stuff way above my head! No the intention was for the guy I gig with to make up a few tracks we don't have, with drum and guitar, unlikely we'd bring it to gigs unless it was a place when they had guest singers. I did post a while back about doing the drums on the PC but never got much feedback and thought the drum machine may be easier all round well it might be eventually if I can find how to work it lol. I'm not that great at the editing of tracks and always seem to need some help with them, yourself and Gerry(Sweeney) have helped me out many a time there with the fixes. If I started doing my drum tracks on the PC the poor folk would be doing a waltz non stop for the evening because I could not stop the loop ;D I never realized I was so old fashioned lol Jacqui

Hi Jacqui Nah your not old fashioned just ageing gracefully ;D Well this might be worth a try spoke to this guy who had one of theses SR16's ok you listening now ya .ok You need to go into User Bank pick an empty Pattern /Step Mode / Pick your Tempo i'e. 180 bpm then the first sound you put in is the bass kick then scroll up or down to side kick then side kick again .....here's what he said 1) Hit your Bass Drum Kick. 2) Side Stick . 3) Side Stick again 4) Very Important you need to change the length of the beat from 8 to 3 just scroll to where it says Beat Length 008 and change to 003 that will make it a 3/4 beat for walz .......then save as Walz or whatever you want open up your User Bank and it should be in there...... Hope I ve explained this ok this guy was in a bit of a rush so couldnt delay him if your stuck gimme a shout ok If you still find this confusing you could just make up a midi of the Walz Beat itself in CW with a count in and the exact length of the song you need so it will stop on time .......... Well Barry I went into Step mode like you said and stepped into my local Bank (Lloyd's Bank) walked up to the guy who looked like he had an empty pattern, definitely a bit of an airhead ;D, then I hit him in his Bass, he did not like it very much so then I hit him with my stick he never liked that either so I tried hitting him with the stick again, the sound I got was not an old time waltz though Maybe I did something wrong Jacqui

Seriously though Barry I tried all that but it never worked for me, can hear the sounds but can't get it to play as a drum beat on it's own Can't find side kick or how to change the beat length either Back to the drawing board. Jacqui

Jacqui you must be kicking him in all the wrong places Id say ;D Ill try and contact this guy again for you ......just thinking back to my own Im sure I pressed a record button while choosing the sounds not positive though.......I presume your hitting the play button as well as the sounds .....geez your confusing me now ;D seriously though while we're waiting for him to get back to me try and see what happens if you press the record button then hit the sounds you need.... dont forget to change the pattern length to 0003...... let me know how you get on with all this hitting you seem to enjoy inflicting pain on others ;D Barry

Hi Jacqui. Sorry to hear of your difficulties and even sorrier I cannot help out with regards programming. I use an Alsesis SR-18 which has several 3/4 patterns built in and they are excellent. This machine has all the pre-set beats I'll ever need so I don't have to worry about programming any new ones.

My partner has the same drum machine. When he has the time he will tell you where the waltz patterns are. If there isn't at least one on that thing then someone else reprogrammed it. You might need to do a factory reset.
We'd send you the SysEx for the thing but he has reprogrammed most of the factory patterns to his own liking.
BTW, would you give an example of "Jive" A song that has the beat/pattern you are looking for would do.

Hi All Just seen a new addition to this thread from a valued member we've not heard of for a long time, nice to hear from you again Jazzcat, hope all is well. I'll sort out a Jive and post a link here in a day or so. I've been told by someone that this machine never had a waltz in the preset patterns. Someone else told me to try this bass drum on beat one snare on offbeat 16th on the hi-hats easy3 beat into on the hi-hats. But I can't find out how to get the 16ths on the machine settings. Someone else said you have to copy the patterns from another machine
