I am just reinstalling programs back on my PC since it's been repaired, I have Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and also Cakewalk Sonar on disc's, what one would you say is the best one to install? I don't really know much about the differences, does any one know? do any have more features?
Also do you know if there is a way to use Cakewalk as just a drum machine, I have a friend would like to try and make some tracks for me with Drum and guitar, he used to have an Alessis SR16 Drum machine, but I said I'd check out drums on a PC before we purchased a drum machine again Jacqui

Hi Jacqui, just had a look at your post re,drums & guitar backing, did the guitar include both bass & rythmn guitar & possibly lead as well,i need a bit of practice on my Sonar le programme so i wouldn't mind having a go at this project if thats ok with you let me know of a couple of songs you would like as well as your prefered key,i can put them into mp3 format if you like which is the format i play all of my songs in,or just leave it in midi format, just a thought...Simmo In saying that,i had a double header with the oldies gigs today which was pretty unusual, came a bit tough as i only just got my voice back today after having two weeks off with a nasty flu virus (got it off of Patricia) but all is well now

Hi Jacqui,
Sonar IMO has a more complicated user interface than CWPA. So for simplicity in MIDI editing I'd probably go for CWPA.
Sonar has many more audio tools in it than CWPA and, with right version, also supports VST. (virtual instruments and effects) so if you're heading down that route, Sonar is better.
There's always the question "best for what?"
I still use the ancient XGworks program for MIDI as in my view, and with many years of use, it seems unbeatable for MIDI file editing. Then I move the file into Sonar for rendering to audio.
But I'm not sure that's gonna help you much. "Best" is always a question of what you're trying to do.
