I remember my Dad telling me that if I were to throw a rope to pull in a drowning man and save him, but later trumpeted my good deed to the world, I'd rather have thrown the rope in ! Many many people donate to a good cause and then tell everyone around what a generous people they are !!!!! Ugh !!!!!

Its just an observation, triton I was at a Memorial Day function of a Hospice here, looking after terminally ill cancer patients and a few men belonging to a local association of residents were insisting that they be allowed to speak , to tell the gathering about how they'd collected some old clothes to give the organisation . Yes even the smallest donations are appreciated and we are grateful. There were so many big hearted donors who preferred to stay anonymous and here were these few egoistic people looking for a vote of thanks in the lime light and getting a little arrogant about it too. Isnt it self gratifying to do something for someone without expecting anything in return ? ,triton, we discuss quite a few interesting subjects in this Forum , other than MIDIS and music and its like being among friends in a Club, talking about anything and everything. A kind of a bond ! It'll be nice to hear from you , about whatever experiences and opinions you have, as long as they dont hurt anyone or are controversial. Welcome aboard,, friend

Hi Shyam, Albert Einstein once said...“The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive.” Wise man was our Albert....

This is a topic which has caught my eye....I'm glad that you brought it up Shy as there is a TV programme running over here called 'The SECRET millionaire'...it's about a millionaire going 'undercover' to different organizations and spending time with them and at the end of the show he/she donates money to them....although the 'cause' is good I cannot see any reason other than publicity why a millionaire would take part in such a programme....why not just give the needed people the money and do without the programme...

From another persecutive. If you have done someone a good turn it makes you feel so very good about yourself that you want everybody to feel you enjoyment and happiness knowing that you have made someone else very happy as well.

I was waiting to see the response to Shyam`s topic, and so far it`s interesting so far.Just a comment on the tv programme`secret millionaire`i would agree that really it`s a show that doe`s help whatever organization that the `millionaire`choose`s my on take on it is quite simple why not just go out and help them out without the tv camera`s being there
I have a friend that is a multi-millionaire and he would be looked upon as a real tight bloke with his cash and he plays on that but i can tell you there is no one i know that does more for charity than him but no one knows because he doesn`t want to be thought of differently.
I`m sure we as musicians all do our share of charity work and don`t expect much in return and i think thats how it should be,my late mum would say you`ll get your reward in heaven lol
Good topic Shyam thanks
