isn't it time we started supporting good commercial midi sites? I've been performing for a nearly 4 years and truth is my trio ends up buying licensed midis because of all the crap on those free sites. If someone is going to all the trouble to produce hi quality midis and paying licensing fees then I need them as much as they need me. Best legal sites I use are Hit Trax (the best and absolute best for tech support), Hands-on and heavenly.

Some good quality midis can be got from free sites...which is why our members here put up links to them, yes Hit Trax are good....so are dozens of others too, some free, some not free...so if you have any links to put up to any sites "themidiguy" feel free to do so in this section and not use it as your soapbox.

I find Hands On Files need a lot of fine tuning due to the velocity levels in the files. Why would you want tech support.Bandtrax and Midi Magic are the files of my choice.I've been performing for over 30 years. Are you related to Ricky Ponting ?

re: "I find Hands On Files need a lot of fine tuning due to the velocity levels in the files. Why would you want tech support...?"
I just up the velocity of the entire hands on midis by a value of 25 or so and that fixes the velocity issue. re tech support, well not everyone is experienced at editing or making midis so isn't it it good to know that it's there? ricky ponting is a cricket player and no i'm not related to him. regarding those other 2 companies, i've already been notified that i shouldn't 'name' midi companies that give good service because thats considered advertsing, but it's ok if frank does.

Franks first three posts on the forum didn't glorify one particular midi site. Lots of midi sites get linked on here...free and not free...and lots of the free ones are of good quality and used by nearly all our members at one time or another...so labelling them all crap is not the way to go.
An opinion is fine but if you get chance to aquaint yourself with our posting rules you will see this is a section for links to sites.

Part of my aim of being here is to try to get people up to a level where they can edit their own files.
Remember Simmo? He was about to get rid of his SonicCell. He's now editing files changing instruments assignments and doing all sorts of things from a completely standing start. No MIDI experience whatsoever. My belief is that everybody, yes everybody, who visits this site could be doing the same. This isn't rocket science.
And if you don't know how just ask. I can write tutorials on Anvil Studio, Cubase LE, Cakewalk Pro Audio, XGworks, Sonar LE and 7PE, but not Pro Tools and some others. I should get a copy of Ableton Live.
BTW, there's a new version of the free Anvil Studio out, which caters for VST instruments, and you can still download the old version at the time of writing.
I feel a little tutorial for Maverick coming on after he posted me some of his SMFs.
Just my 2d. JohnG.

hi john as you know im a novice at setting up a new song dont know where to start as i said previously. you dont have any knowledge of logic platinum 5.5.0 which i have used for years to doctor midis and have learned a lot from you regards velocity, etc. i would like to start by setting up the chords, bass and drums i see you can write tutorials for some sequencers i wonder if you can suggest which one would be of assistance to me so as i can get one of your tutorials and maybe i can learn how its done and work on logic platinum preverably start by learning how to input chords thanks maverick(jim)

Hi Jim,
Nearly missed this one. It's always a good idea to start a new thread or post to my new Q and A section to catch my attention.
Let me think about this one Jim. Not owning Logic makes it difficult for me to know where to begin but I'll give it some thought. Makes personal not on "To Do" list to think about Logic.
All the best, JohnG.
