Has anyone tried this programme, it looks good, but I dont want to bother getting it if its useless. I'd be interested to see if anyone has any knowledge of its capabilities.

Hi Geraint,
Yes, I tried this one out a year or so ago and it may have been updated since I tried. I didn't do extensive tests though.
Of all the ones I've tried this is probably the best, or should I say the least bad. It at least tries to break the audio up into separate MIDI channels and the more information about the construction of the file, exact instrumentation used, the better is the attempt.
If the file is relatively simple, i.e. a few easily distinguishable instruments, then what comes out is IMO about half way there. There's still a reasonable amount of work to do to get the file back into shape.
I think it may be more suited to orchestral files.
Isn't there a demo version available? JohnG.

Thanks for that John. I cant find a free demo, but I suspect that its as hopeless as the other programmes that allege will convert wav. to midi

No, it's a bit better than that.
If you can analyse the file and provide an instrument list for it it then looks for frequency bands of the instruments and makes a stab at decoding it. It is definitely better than all the other rubbish out there. But as has been said many times before, wav to MIDI is like trying to get the cow back from a beefburger. Once all those instruments are mixed, reverbed and panned into just two audio tracks it's almost impossible at the moment to get individual instruments and notes back out again.
