Gerry and Barry thank you.
I'd begun to think that I'd wasted my time and was discouraged from writing the sequel. Good to know that somebody's watching. The next one was started a while back but got put on hold. Thanks again, JohnG

Hi John Well got my "baby" back" thank god......I'm referring to my kb of course ;D had an issue with the display again but all sorted now . John I've got XG Works all set up now and as Im using the PSR S700 have that set as my tone generator I can record and play tunes into XG from my kb no problem .....I'd really like to know now if I'm not jumping the gun....how to make these sequences play somebit normal through my sound canvas.. Your probably thinking why would I want to do that ......Im a guitar player myself so don't use the kb out gigging ( not yet anyway ) so I still use the Roland midi file player for backing sometimes I find it very useful if I need to call singers and the key needs to be changed etc as well as that I have lots of drum beats on floppies which come in handy for accoustic sets etc.......might eventually go down the ipod laptop mini disk route etc but for now Im quite happy with what I got . The only problem Im having now is getting my own yamaha sequences to sound decent enough through my Roland GS its the old canvas so the sounds are fairly limited. I know you got lots on at the moment John and if you intend to bring this subject up in future tutorials I dont mind waiting ok.........many thanx as usual for all your help Regards Barry

Hi John Well I got sorted out with my copy of XG Works thanks..........managed to set everything up but theres just one niggly thing thats driving me nuts .......I needed to download the latest update patch for my S700 which I duly did and copied to my XG Works directory. Problem now is I can't see it listed in the Model Setup anywhere and its telling me (when I click auto I think)that my tone generator is the mu128 which of course is wrong. The sounds are def not playing back right when I record something into xgw. Would it have anything to do with the ver Im using 3.07 or Win 7 because I did have this up and running in ver 3.70 a good while back Im almost sure ........any ideas John Thanx Barry

Hi Barry, Sorry about the delay, I've been away for a few days on a short business trip. What you probably need is the latest "special" version of XGworks called XGworks Pro. This has the updates embedded within it and is tweaked for XP. I believe people have got it working in Win 7 but it may be you have to go into a special Windows mode to install it. There is a Yahoo group just concerned with XGworks and, if you don't mind, I'm going to point you there where you should be able to read past posts to discover what to do. I'm only up to XP, so can't give advice here. Try launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xgworksusers/, you'll have to log in as a new user I believe. But then you should get the help you need. Hope that'll do for now? JohnG.

Hi John Finally managed to get it sorted myself......no patience me . ...everythings up and running now thankfully just needed to copy the voice list and parameters from the s700 patch update into xgw editor and VOILA there it was . Now the fun begins ;D Thanx Barry update, I might be sorted..... Yep, all sorted now. Now what'll I do with it... There's hope. I've got XGW 3.07 installed and it's working (Win 7)... sound goes to PSR S900 but not using the sounds of my S900. In the XGWorks installation folder there's instrument files, each has VceList.ini and *.tbl, but none for S900. So I guess that's what you got with your patch update? I've searched and read... what and where and how can I do the same for my setup ??
If anyone can tell me what to do... in baby steps ...that would be great, thanksps I've started reading the midi tutorials does it get easy??

Its been a long time since I used XG Works can't for the life of me remember how I done it but your gonna need the S900 instrument file (see below) which should have all your kb sounds its just a matter of installing it don't even have xg works to try and figure it out pretty straightforward though if I'm not mistaken ....John if he sees this will surely put you right ..he often pops by here but if not you could always seek help from his new Midi Tutorials Website you might need to register to gain access though. midi-tutor.proboards.com/ psrs900.zip (11.08 KB) Rgds Barry

You're very good, but I suspected you might be, which is why I noted that I *might* have got the files I needed ... Thanks for the effort, I got the upgrade and it worked. Now I have it together with XGWorks where I cannot lose it!
I am registered on the midi-tutor site and hope to continue reading now this little obstacle is out of the way.
