Hi folks,i was wondering if there is any decent software/programe out there which will transpose either wav or MP3 ie,change the key of backing tracks which are in this format without losing the quality in the track, although i am at present only working with midi to make up my backing but once the midi is customised to suit my needs i then record it into Wav then Mp3 format,i realise that if i need to transpose it to another key for whatever reason at a later date i can still go back to the original midi & make the changes & then re-record it again but this is where a wav or mp3 transposer would save a lot of time. There is probable heaps of stuff out there but possibly one of the members can reccomend something..many thanks Simmo..ps i am using Sonar le to do my editing.

Hi Terry .....hope you are all keeping well..... With Sonar you have all the tools you need to achieve this only downside is whether you transpose the keys up or down in audio mp3 wav etc it will affect the speed and overall quality. But you might get away with +1 or _1 shift transpose why not experiment with it and see how you get on. Im not aware of any software out there at the moment that will achieve this with good results unless other members can reccommend something .......why would you need to go down that road anyway really if your just converting your midis to mp3's in the right key ? But if you wanna give it a shot with Sonar Ill help you out anytime just gimme a shout .......Sonar is a great Prog and you really have everything in it for what you need converting midis editing midis as well as the audio side of things .........see how you go Terry and if you need any assistance just ask ok ......take care Regards Barry

Hi Terry,
Key transposition in wav or mp3 almost always ends up mutilating the file, even if only a little bit. Pitch shifting all the drums, cymbals etc. is likely to end up sounding very strange.
It's still better to keep the original MIDI and transpose all except the drum track, especially if you want more than a semitone up or down. It's not difficult to transpose in Sonar once you get used to it.
And ... your postcard arrived in the post this morning, thank you very much. Glad you and Patricia enjoyed Bali.
All the best, JohnG.

Hi John many thanks mate you have confirmed what i understand about transposing keys in wav or mp3,i was just wondering with all the advances in technology etc as to whether someone had come up with a super duper programme which is able to do the transposing of keys without losing any quality,as it is i am quite comfortable using Sonar to do this function while the song is in midi mode,it must have beena bit of an age thing ;D because 'Ole Simmo' is still trying to cram as much in as quickly as possible while he still can...i must admit i've probably left my run a bit late to be a Popstar but at the end of the day i still love seeing the Oldies having a good time while i act up & make a fool of myself at the concerts, one of my "One liners" after being introduced is to "let the folks into a secret"by sharing with them the fact that i "Normally play to old people" this is usually met by a stunned silence as they digest this statement,i then proceed to let them know that i am without doubt i am the "Oldest crusty in the room",it is a great intro & gets them onside straight away,( except of course in the dementia homes where we all have a good time regardless) ;D,well John thanks again for the info on transposing mp3s i need look no further as it has come from the "Guru "himself, glad you got the postcard from our hol in Bali,i suspected it would be delivered a while after us getting home,i am still having a problem getting the pics up on the forum even with your guidance,.....Best wishes to all...Simmo
