Sad to report that the legend that was Alex Higgins has very sadly lost his fight with throat cancer, although not a musician he was a great entertainer and thrilled and exasperated millions the world over. His great battles with the `nugget`Steve Davis and Denis Taylor go down in the `folklore`of snooker, many of his fellow `pros`admit to him being their inspiration in the game. To most of us over here in N.Ireland we put him on the same pedestal as our other `Genius` George Best he was to snooker what `Bestie` was to soccer but more than that he has been an inspiration to all those that are battling with a terminal illness he has battled it for over 4 years and fought it with a dignity that i can only be amazed at so rest in peace now Alex you where the `peoples champion`
God Bless

True words there Weegeo...but it will be interesting to see if the great man will get the same send off as 'Bestie' got....some how I doubt it Kev

Interesting post Wee George,
Yes, I remember watching the Hurricane way back, was it the eighties? He was certainly, on form, a formidable player and a real character. Mercurial many called him. But the had his demons, just like Best, and was probably off form more than he was on, it is said.
But he was inspirational, no doubt of that. Perhaps we could do with more of his kind.
Anyway, R.I.P. Alex. You will be remembered with fondness for all your good qualities, JohnG.
