Hi Everyone I believe there are many amongst us who have problems with our memories. We tend to forget quite a few things in our years of senior citizenship. We would have started to talk about something, but someone or something barged in and lo !! ........... we've forgotten what we wanted to say !!! What doe we usually do when this happens ? Most of the time we'll tell ourselves " Aw. I'll think of it sometime later ........... it'll come back to me later " We never, usually, remember it later and we think its unimportant and forget the whole incident. THIS, MY FRIENDS, IS THE WORST THING WE CAN DO TO OURSELVES. Jog your memory, keep thinking about what it was that you wanted to say or do ............. keep at it, no matter how long it takes and no matter how trivial it seens........... DONT REST TILL YOU GOT IT BACK IN YOUR MIND AGAIN !!! I've always practised this and I find its been worth all the jogging . I have never lost my subject oof conversation and believe me , its very very rewarding and satisfying . I keep telling everyone I know not to treat these "temporaryy losses in memory" as something trivial . It is very important to keep our memory ALIVE and Living. Try it out friends , you'll be much the happier for it. S M I L E !!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice thought Shyam, but I'd be sitting there all day my friend. I can recall lyrics to songs, chord sequences etc. but interrupt a conversation, and its gone forever.

Yes Gerraint, some things stick to our mind which is good, but these are kinda "inbuilt" , and we dont need to exercise our brains for these, BUT we do need to jog our memory pot for quite a few other things . The most common irritant is forgetting our conversations when interrupted. This is what we need to rattle up and get going, so try never to put it off........... sit all day if you need to, but GET IT . You'll find yourself getting better and better at it as experiences go by. Its worth it.

Hi Shyam, interesting stuff indeed mate,i know the feeling exactly when you just seem to have these sudden lapses of memory & for myself being the wrong side of seventy they do come more frequently than i would like to admit to, however!!!!i have found the perfect answer when the 'War Office'!!!! reminds me of a particular instance or possibly an outstanding chore or even an event coming up,i tell her to liken my brain to that of a computer with a low storage capacity & that because "Ole Simmo" may seem quite a little lacking in memory from time to time i.e birthdays, unimportant chit-chat,dustbin day when the bins need to be put out plus a whole range of seemingly non urgent functions it is due to the fact that he's memory storage has reached its capacity & all of the useless info being received actually goes straight into the recycle bin never to see the light of day again while the vital info such as "doing music"!!! be it spending countless hours editing midis, practising songs, visiting music stores, keeping the beer fridge topped up & all of those similar day to day activities that keeps the mind active.Thats Simmo's take on the subject, must go i've just remembered its dinner time, Regards to all, Simmo

Good topic Shyam,
There was a time, a few years back, when I was a team leader in the IT industry. I ended up directing the activities of a couple of dozen people at one point, far too many to keep track of mentally! So I bought myself a page a day diary and got into the habit of writing everything down and I do mean everything. I still do it, but not quite so diligently, and now with a week to a view diary, and it certainly helps to keep track of things that I need to do.
But it still doesn't help me with remembering what I was talking about a few minutes earlier when I've lost track of the gist. Nor does it remind me to put out the rubbish bins!
Oh well! JohnG.

Yes, writing things down in a note book helps , but its still like a crutch to cling to, something you make yourself NEED , and I wouldnt advise that because it doesnt exercise your brain to bring back your thoughts. We need to overcome these "temporary memory losses " and for that we have to wrestle with our brain and somehow train ourselves to bring them back to NOW. Start trying this from today , and you'll find yourself getting better with the days.. I know we'll all look for excuses to put off these exercises and you'll even console yourselves and accept you are getting old and all this is a natural process, you'll even tell yourself ......" what does Shyam know of our problems and memory lapses" These are plain excuses, so dont let lethargy get the better of you............ let the body relax , but dont ever let your brain relax, Keep it working !!!!!

Well good to see the old Shyam posts back and a good one as well i have brilliant memories of my childhood and i even remember my first day in primary school my best memories come with my time in this madhouse of a business we are in i remember evry gig i played in the sixties[thus disproving the theory if you remember the 60`s you weren`t really there lol] bringing it up to present day if i look at the lyrics of a song twice i have it learnt and stored in my memory bank
I do however find it increasingly difficult to remember what i did last week lol i am lucky in that my wife looks after all that i do i am consoled to the fact that my memory is beyond saving now lol with age and wear and tare lol anyway what are we talking about lol lol

Good Dear George,........... so happy to hear from you and sooooooooo very happy to hear you can recollect all your memories of your gigs. I hope to meet up with you when I'm there - it'll be great to hear about your escapades. Lyrics ...........well well, you guys are levels ahead of me ....I kinda choose not to remember and shamelessly rely on my 24 sized font lyric books !!!! I started this dirty habit about 12 years ago and now am dependent on these books. To think that I used to remember every song years ago ........ sob sob sob. In all other matters my memory is sharp as a tick !
