Hi Folks, not to sure whether anyone can help with this problem,i have a good friend who like myself is using Sonar le to edit midis etc,he came around tonight with some midifiles he had edited,on the midifiles he had added some audio tracks with some backing vocals on which he had recorded himself,he then saved all the tracks (midi & audio) as a cakewalk bundle file. When he opened the files up on sonar he found that all of the files had the same problem which was that the audio tracks were playing a little bit behind the midifiles which of course sounded pretty awful, the problem is he has a couple of hundred files all with the same problem,i know he has spent several months in making this backing up for he's own use & being an ardent Shadows fan he also belongs to the Shadows club which is very active out here,he asked me if i could help him but unfortunately Ole Simmo hasn't got the first idea where to begin,he did mention that all the files had previously been ok so there is a chance he may have pressed the wrong button on the computer,i do have one of these files & can forward it to anyone who is able to help, just thought it might be worth a try running it past the forum,on second thoughts i have just seen the size of the file its 87mb which is far to big,any suggestions welcome, Simmo

Re the midi problem i forgot to mention that up until now all the files had played ok so he may have done some function on the computer which caused the problem, thought that was worth mentioning, many thanks ,Simmo

Hi Terry... ....the guys here will sort this one out for your friend Im sure ........might not be the answer but I remember something like this happening to me a good while back I forgot to disable my anti-virus program. it was running in the background and messing up the timing/sync of audio and midi so I disabled my AV and everything was back in sync again .......the prob could be more advanced than that but worth a try....... Im sure you'll get more technical advice and remedies from the experts here..... Regards Barry

Hi Terry might be worth checking this out as well.........btw is this prob just on your pc or on his as well?. Barry What can I do to correct trouble with sync between audio and MIDI data?First, try enabling the "Uses Wave Out Position For Timing" setting under Options | Audio | Advanced. If problems persist, disable the Wave Out setting and consult the chart available at www.cakewalk.com/Support/Docs/DMASettings.htm for the proper settings of your sound card[/i]

+1 on the DMA settings as the most likely cause, although it just could be an application like antivirus software, or a screensaver getting in the way. One way to check whether it's the DMA setting is to increase its value significantly and see if the problem becomes a lot worse. If it does then the simplest thing to do is to reset the DMA to its lowest acceptable (working) value, then move the audio track forward a few ticks in relation to the MIDI. All the best, JohnG. P.S. a coupla good articles here: www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep06/articles/pcmusician_0906.htmand here: www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep08/articles/pcnotes_0908.htm

Hi Barry & John G thanks for your advice on sync problem, yes my mate loaded the files on a memory stick for me to try on my computer & the result was the same, all of he's backing tracks which consisted of wav & midi & were saved as a Cakewalk bundle had the same problem, the wav tracks were delayed & not in sync with the midi tracks,i have just found out that he's computer's soundcard had been playing up & in fact had "cacked" itself in the last few days so he is going to have to get that sorted out but because the files are not working as they should on my computer either i guess that it would be possible to get them sorted using my computer which also is running Sonar,i will check out the help sites you both have forwarded to me first before doing anything else,i will let you know how we go.Had a busy day today with 2 gigs but a little easier next week unless more bookings come in. Kind regards Simmo
