Hi folks, just to let you know that after having all sorts of problems with our recent new wireless server Optus ,eg, intermittent connections, freezing of screen etc,i managed at last to actually talk to a real person who was to guide me through the whole process of sorting the problem out,the funny thing was that when i got through to the helpline number (with the added bonus of being able to understand what they were saying instead of an accent so strong it all sounded garbled) the person asked me to start the computer up & go on line so she could guide me through the steps i needed to do to to resolve the problem,of course as it happened i was unable to get a connection to put me online at that time,so the next step was she suggested that i follow her instructions by telephone which also was a nonstarter because we are on wireless with the phone as well and having no connection for the two at the same time this also proved difficult,by now Ole Simmo as you can imagine is totally confused & out of he's depth, right!!! the next suggestion from the good lady is to contact us on our mobile phone ( they seem to automatically assume that everyone has one of those infernal objects) & guide me through using this method, this also put me on the spot as i have a deep hate for mobile phones & have never owned one of these fiendish devices & on the extreme occasion i have spoken into one i have all sorts of trouble understanding what is being said, it must be an age thing ,!!!! however to my rescue comes the "War Office"!!! who actually has a prepaid mobile hidden away in the depths of her handbag & unknown to Simmo, so from there she takes over the whole operation with the result being we have been upgraded from a 2G!!! connection to a 3G!!! connection which means absolutely nothing to this "Old Chap"!!!,but it seems to have resolved the problem because i can now turn the computer on & expect to get a connection as well all at the same time,i think that it is commonly called multi-tasking (is there no end to Ole Simmo's talent)!!!,so all things being equal you should all expect the speed & quality of emails ...posts...etc from the man himself to go up a couple of levels in the not to distant future . Simmo...polishing the sceen etc...

Hi Terry .....well thats great news that your finally sorted.....you should see a big difference in speeds now in data transmissions downloads uploads and video streaming.....one quest though........are they charging you a lot extra for this or does it remain the same price? Whats your prob with mobile phones Terry? I know there's nothing worse than listening to someones whole conversation while your waiting to see the doctor ;D but when I'm out and about which I am quiet a lot Id be lost without it especially gig wise ... I woulda lost plenty of work if I didnt have a mobile esp the way things have gone so quiet now when people ring and your not at home and there's no mobile to contact you they usually try someone else .....as well as emergencies Ive had a few breakdowns late at night returning from gigs over the years and I thanked God for the good old mobile phone ;D ah well maybe they're not everybodies cuppa tea I expect ...anyway glad everythings up and running again now my emails will finally reach their destination from now on lol........Cheerz for now beat regards to Pat..... Barry

Hi Barry, thanks for your input re internet /mobiles etc and you are absolutely right in everything you have stated,i did omit one small detail and that is i actually have no idea how to begin to use a mobile phone ,i must admit i do cop a fair bit of flack from firstly our kids and now and again the grandkids who think its quite unique and believe that its just not possible to survive and live a normal life without one,on the other side of the page when they drop into visit us and i might just happen to be on the computer editing some of my midis etc they are lost for words as to how a person who is unable to use a mobile phone and yet that same person is doing stuff on the computer well in advance of anything that they have ever done,( even though it is just the basic editing i am doing).I guess what i am trying to say is that at this time i really can manage ok without one, firstly we have our landline in which is the only telephone number that i use in all of my bookings, all of my clients have this number and in the event that we are not able to take a call the option to leave a message is always there for them to use.I will agree that in the case of a breakdown in the car or any other emergency it is probably a good idea to have one,in short i probably will meander through life locked into some of the old ways for no good reason but until something happens things probably won't change that drasticly in the Simmo household,it certainly isn't a money thing either, perhaps we are at the stage in our lives where we are contented with our lot,got some great kids & also some wonderful grandkids and we see how mobile phones just seem to take over peoples lives, they go into panic mode if it goes missing or breaks down.I guess i am showing my age a bit with all these ramblings, but on the other side of the coin if i am ever near a music shop i can go missing for hours ;D, thought i might continue this thread to add a bit of interest to the forum, hang on i've gotta dash the phones ringing it could be IMPORTANT!!!!!! Ole Simmo....tripping over all the cables in the music den ;D ;D PS,I SHOULDN'T BE TELLING YOU THIS BUT I HAVEN'T BEEN TO A CINEMA SINCE 1974 WHEN I SAW THE Ist JAWS MOVIE

Hi Frank, yep as you say we've moved on from the cranking the handle phone but as things are at the moment we get by pretty well just with the landline,i worked for myself for many years as a lawn /garden maintenance contractor servicing homes etc & finishing up doing mainly commercial contracts for industrial sites, private schools & a fair bit of work for the local council, parks etc,at that stage the mobile phones were as big as a brick & i found that i did purchase one of these at some stage because everybody seemed to think that they were essential to run a business,i remember the one i had came with a vibrating unit that you could put in your pocket because as you can imagine sitting up on a large mower with its diesel engine thumping away for up to 12 hours a day to hear a phone ringing was just about impossible,i found that even with the vibrating unit put close to parts of my anatomy i wont even disclose on the forum, i was still unable to sense when a call was coming in,so the result was any messages were relayed to our landline & 'the War office' handled them for me,urgency didn't seem to be a priority as all of my work was on a regular programme & the supervisors on the shires were on the road to inform me of any info i needed to know.So that was my one & only foray into mobile phones,of course it wouldn't work in todays climate so i guess my lack of interest in them could stem from the effects of too much stimulation by a vibrating unit over an extended period of time on a part of my anatomy to delicate to discuss on a forum such as this for decency's sake, .Right!!!! now back to the fishing, although for the past couple of days we have been experiencing some of the worst ever thunderstorms for many years the place where we normally put our 4 metre dinghy in to do our bit of fishing we found the ocean to be surprisingly calm with just a small swell running so we headed out a little way just in case it turned nasty,we dropped our legal quota of crabnets (10) & then went to a different spot to drop the lines in,plenty of action with the small stuff herrings, garfish all a reasonable size,i also dropped a big line over just in case there may have been something else as well, after about an hour the big line took off & it took about 15 mjns to get whatever was onit back to underneath the boat, had problems even getting it off the bottom before it took off & broke off the line, chances are it was a big stingray as they are pretty common around here, all in all not a bad days fishing,no crabs but we both got a good feed of fish, well thats all the news from the Simmo's,quiet day today muckin around in the garden & then check a couple of midi's out, Best wishes to all from your intrepid reporter downunder,Simmo

Simmo the secret in getting a stingray to come off the bottom is to pluck the fishing line like a guitar string.Apparantly the vibrations stir them up.

:)Hi there Weegeo, great to hear from you again, hope everything is ticking over nicely for you & that your not overdoing it,the famous 'corner' on its own should be enough to keep you out of trouble!!!!,All is well with the Simmo mob & the news is that Ole Simmo & wife look like having a trip to the cinema sometime soon owing to a kind gesture from our daughter who presented us with a double pass to go to one of those flash ones with the fancy seats & all the trimmings as well,i think it may be to do with the fact that i might have mentioned in passing ( several times actually) that my last visit to a cinema was in 1974,anyway i guess that we will rely on the kids to make sure we get to see a decent pic, will keep you posted. Our weather has settled down a bit now & its getting a tad cooler,we are below 30c in the daytime at the moment but have just seen the forcast for next week & it looks like we are in for another week of 30c+ but that should be it for a while because we are into Autumn now.Still busy with the gigs,Patricia is well & says Hi,will talk some more soon,(visitors have just arrived) Best wishes to all,the Simmo's
