Thanks for the speedy re-opening of this lounge Pat ... just need a couple of lava lamps in the chill-out area while you've got the decorators in ;D I thought this post was going to be an April Fool's gag but wow ... this is new technology to me and very interesting ... I could do with one of these beauties (Tommy would agree ... ) If the Gibson Dark Fire is sensibly priced, I'd maybe check this one out further. Thanks for sharing this Pat Best regards ... Rainbow:)

Are you guys for real, do you really think self tuning guitars do not exist and is only part of an April Fools joke? Such a suspicious lot you are ;d Actually, I am very serious about getting one of these guitars as I hate having to tune 'em and if they are good enough for the likes of Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin then they'll do for me en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_Robot_Guitar

Ah but Jimmy Page is deaf from all the megawatts over the years, and can't hear his guitar to tune it. Surprised he can't afford a roadie to do it for him.
Next thing you'll be telling me is that car tyres can be automatically inflated as you drive. Pull the steering wheel towards you before you set off and you have a range of pressures to choose from. Normal, winter, summer, 1 up, 2 up, 4 up, full boot, roof rack, planks sticking out of the sun roof, etc. Push the steering wheel forward to engage normal steering. All powered form a 3volt solar panel on the roof.
Now wouldn't that be cool? Now who's pulling whose leg?

I considered there to be some merit to this "argument" until I thought about it - Jimmy, nor any gigging guitarist for that matter, may not feel too comfortable having a Rodie pop up on stage and tune his guitar every time it went a little flat. ;D I understand there will be those who may not see the need for a self-tuning guitar but personally I find the notion rather useful.

Thanks Tom, and good luck with your hopes for a Fender version of the self-tuning guitar. I use to have a beautiful Strat back in the day but had to sell it when things were going bad financially, this was back in the 1980s.
I will get me one of these new babies one of the days.

No Pat is right, the Gibson Robot guitar has been around for about 2 years now.
While big names like Jimmy Page may not have roadies tuning there guitars on stage they definitely have several spares tuned up and at the ready to be swapped over between songs.
Myself I have no desire for a self tuning guitar, my Gretsch with the locking Sperzal tuners stays pretty well in tune all night! ;D

Just looking at that youtube video again has only increased my desire for one of these gems I read that if you want you can still tune up manually in the conventional manner by simply temporarily deactivating the automatic method. Best of both worlds

Think positive, young man ;D Have a read of this: www.gibson.com/robotguitar/story5.htmlIt's about the lad who perfected this thingy. Nice piece. He talks also about famous guitarists who use the Gibson Robot Sorry Gerry, your name isn't there just yet
