I was wondering what kind of service members are getting from there internet providers? I was recently getting 1mb always on broadband, free off-peak local and national calls, line rental for €50 per month, i then saw that vodafone were offering the same package but with 3mb, when i rang my provider (Eircom) to tell them i was changing they offered me 3mb, free local and national calls anytime plus free off-peak calls to meteor mobile numbers for €45 per month...in these times of competition in the ISP market i would suggest all members contact your provider and get a better deal, they will not want to lose your custom.....i imagine the savings will be even better in larger populated countries...it pays to shop around!! It would be interesting to hear what members worldwide are paying....cos i would be confident it will be cheaper than rip-off Ireland!!

Gerry, this is very coincidental as I recently considered moving to another crowd, Imagine.ie, who offer some amazing deals but I then decided to remain with Eircom as they offered a similar deal when we told them of our intentions.
Our telephone line, because we live nearly 3 miles from the exchange, is regrettably not capable of taking anymore than just one meg so we can't benefit from the 3 meg offer. We remain optimistic, nevertheless, that one day Eircom will improve all the telephone cables in our area so as to bring us in line with the 21 century ;D

20 meg! Cricket! In the larger cities, Dublin for example, you can get speeds of up to 20 megs but unfortunately not where I am. But am I jealous? You bet ;d

it is because it is cable!!!however when it meets the old copper cable of BT it slows right down again!! cable uses fibre optics!! wish they would use it all over the country!! i changed over to Sky!! the land line is£10 per month and the broadband which is up to 16Mb/s (i just get2Mb/s) line,s not that good!! BT ,s fault again!! is about £15 but i get free calls!! and unlimited usage!! since i have gone completely over to Sky!! (tv/phone/broadband/Hd) i,m saving approx £30 as BT used to cost £40 without calls!!

That sounds a great deal, Steve, but here in the Irish republic Sky has yet to offer anything other than TV!! When/if they eventually do decide to offer us bog dwellers a similar service to what you guys in the UK get then I am sure many here will switch to them. As things are we make do with what we have

Just thought you might like to know a little known fact. When our dear PM called Maggie was in power, BT offered to rewire the country with fibre, but needed some governmental sponsoring. They decided it wasn't needed so the project didn't go ahead. The smaller cable companies just cherry pick the areas where they will get the most customers, so naturally they can put in high speed fibre. BT has to deal with the whole country. Can you imagine how many hundreds of billions it will cost to dig up every street to put fibre in? I was a contractor to BT for four and a half years, and did some of the initial ISP training when DSL was first being offered to them, and was in touch with the project managers. So next time you want to blame BT, think of a government which is not currently in power, that decided not to invest in the country's infrastructure, just like they didn't invest in the trains and tracks. Am I promoting the other lot? After the current fiasco and the initial decision to tax pension funds leading to the mass extinction of company pensions, I think not. Anyone left. Lib Dems? Green Party? Anarchists? UKIP? Aha! The Monster Raving Looney Party! Er, doesn't that describe them all? Just my 2d as usual. JohnG. P.S. Sarkosy and Merkel, go for the throat! Bankers (rhymes with w*****s) must be regulated. But then again I could be wrong!
